Una ciudad que te hace alucinar de tantas luces que puedes ver en el time square. Lugares icónicos como la 5ta avenida, el empire state, el puente de manhathan, puente de Brooklyn, han sido escenarios del cine por excelencia. Incluso la famosa estatua de la libertad, ¿Cuántas veces no la hemos visto caer en alguna escena de acción? En fin, la ciudad de las cosas impredecibles como ir caminando y de pronto te encuentras a personajes como Snoop Dog

New york está ubicada en la boca del río Hudson y desemboca por el océano atlántico. La mayor parte del estado de New york está construida sobre tres islas: Manhattan, Staten Island y Long Island y está organizada en cinco comunas o distritos cuyos nombres hemos escuchado alguna vez, ya sea en alguna película, programa de televisión, noticias o canción: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, el Bronx y Staten Island. A propósito de las canciones, que yo más he escuchado mencionar esta icónica ciudad son: New York New York, la versión de Frank Sinatra, New York de Alicia Keys, empire state of mind J z y Alicia keys y un verano en Nueva York del gran combo de puerto rico. Y como dicen los amigos del gran combo, así fue como me divertí con encanto y con primor, viviendo mi verano en nueva york.

Cuando recibí la noticia en mi trabajo que viajaríamos a New York, realmente no lo podía creer, no quise mostrarme muy emocionada ni menos hacerme muchas ilusiones. Realmente no lo creí sino hasta que iba montada en un avión rumbo a Texas para hacer escala a New york. Al llegar a la ciudad a eso de las 7 pm, me esperaba la 7ma avenida y las luces alucinantes del time square, donde me hospedaría por los días que estaría por allá. Repito, no lo podía creer. Toda mi vida soñé con visitar New York y estaba ahí, en la segunda ciudad de la moda, como estudiante de diseño de modas, visitar la universidad de Parsons era requisito indispensable. Como artista y músico, estaba en una de las ciudades más importantes del mundo que dio sueños a grandes personajes que trascendieron en la historia de la música y del arte en general. Y lo mejor del caso es que viajaba con todos mis amigos porque como vi alguna vez en la película into the wild: “La Felicidad solo es real si es compartida”.

Cantar era nuestro trabajo, teníamos tres conciertos importantes en esta ciudad, ninguno menos importante que el otro. El primero sería en el Lincoln Center, complejo histórico que da sede a la escuela de Julliard, al metropolitan, a las respectivas agrupaciones de ópera y ballet y las orquestas de jazz (Lincoln Center Jazz orchestra) y la filarmónica de New York. Sería un concierto para órgano junto a la famosa compañía de danza José Limón. El siguiente concierto sería en la sede del banco iberoamericano del desarrollo, organización que se encarga de financiar proyectos para el desarrollo económico y social y la integración comercial de américa latina y el caribe. Y finalmente el último concierto en esta primera parada por Nueva york sería en la sede de la organización de las naciones unidas. Tres conciertos que convirtieron este viaje en una experiencia de intercambio cultural inolvidable. Dejamos el alma en cada uno de ellos y a cambio nuestra mayor recompensa fue la ovación del público.
Singing was our job, we had three important concerts in this city, none less important than the other. The first would be in the Lincoln Center, a historic complex that houses the Julliard school, the metropolitan, the respective opera and ballet groups and the jazz orchestras (Lincoln Center Jazz orchestra) and the New York Philharmonic. It would be a concert for organ with the famous José Limón dance company. The next concert would be at the headquarters of the Ibero-American Development Bank, an organization that is responsible for financing projects for economic and social development and commercial integration in Latin America and the Caribbean. And finally the last concert in this first stop in New York would be at the headquarters of the United Nations organization. Three concerts that turned this trip into an unforgettable cultural exchange experience. We left our soul in each one of them and in return our greatest reward was the ovation of the public.
Aunque era un viaje de trabajo y la mayor parte del tiempo estábamos en ensayos, también tuvimos tiempo para salir a conocer la ciudad. Como éramos un grupo muy grande cada quien se iba con su cada cual, en esta oportunidad mis inseparables compañeras hicieron de estos recorrido algo realmente divertido, como buenas turistas salíamos muy temprano a caminar, fue muy poco lo que usamos transporte. Si acaso alquilamos una bici para pasear por el central park el primer día y terminar dando vueltas hasta perdernos y luego no saber cómo regresar al hotel. Cosas típicas que ocurren cuando no conoces una ciudad. Cuando eres turista se nota, sobretodo porque tienes una cámara y le tomas fotos hasta a una simple manzana (Yo revisando mi álbum de fotos)

En nueva york la comunidad hispana es muy grande, así que es muy fácil coincidir con personas que también hablen español. Como turista, quizás es muy probable que ni te enteras de los problemas reales existentes de un país, como el racismo o la xenofobia y por eso todo mi escrito puede parecer un cuento de hadas. Pero existen, cada país tiene sus problemas internos y sin embargo en mi caso coincidí con gente muy buena y el intercambio cultural fue bastante enriquecedor.
In New York the Hispanic community is very large, so it is very easy to meet people who also speak Spanish. As a tourist, perhaps it is very likely that you do not even know about the real existing problems of a country, such as racism or xenophobia and that is why all my writing may seem like a fairy tale. But they do exist, each country has its internal problems and yet in my case I met with very good people and the cultural exchange was quite enriching.
Finalmente, son muchas las fotos y más los recuerdos que me quedan de aquel viaje, fueron muchos los lugares que visité e incluso la comida chatarra que comí. Es una ciudad ideal para el consumo, pero también es una ciudad llena de mucho arte en cada esquina. De hecho hasta para ser artista de la calle necesitas presentar audiciones. Una ciudad que te exige el nivel máximo porque la competencia es grande. Una ciudad para no olvidar lo que eres ni de dónde vienes y a qué vas. Fue una experiencia gratificante y definitivamente si tuviera la oportunidad de volver lo haría cada vez más llena de ambiciones.
Finally, there are many photos and more memories that I have from that trip, there were many places that I visited and even the junk food that I ate. It is an ideal city for consumption, but it is also a city full of art on every corner. In fact even to be a street artist you need to audition. A city that demands the highest level of you because the competition is great. A city not to forget who you are or where you come from and where you are going. It was a rewarding experience and if I had the opportunity to return I would definitely do so more and more full of ambitions.
