Ecency is probably the most comprehensive Hive dApp with a web site, desktop application, a phone app and app for short form posting called waves. Its phone app is the most used mobile app for a general Hive experience with notification system and all. They have a relatively easy sign-up process and creating Hive accounts with just a mail verification.
Ecency has been around for a long time, and it has went through a process of rebranding when the Hive fork happened from its previous version eSteem. Ecency has been building for years with no hype around the app, but just providing a nice experience, especially on the mobile side.
Let’s take a look at some of the data.
Here we will take a look at the activity on the platform, the overall number of posts, comments, and the number of users. The top content creators for the last month will be presented as well.
The period that we will be looking at is from the creation of the app on Hive, August 2020 through August 12, 2026.
Posts
First let us see the number of posts coming from the Ecency.
Here is the chart.
We can see that at the start the app was not heavily used, but then it grew by a lot, especially in 2021. The all-time high for daily posts was at the beginning of 2022, when there were around 1k posts per day. Since then, the activity has dropped, although less sharply than comments.
After 2021 the number of posts declined from around 800 to 500 per day. It increased again at the end of 2024 and in the first half of 2025, but the trend turned lower in the second half of the year.
The decline continued in 2026. During the latest 30 days Ecency averaged 332 posts per day, with most recent days close to the 300–350 range.
Comments
The chart above was only about posts.
What about comments?
Here is the number of comments made per day from Ecency.
We can see the initial growth in 2021 and 2022, with peaks close to 8k comments per day.
This was followed by a period of sideways action in 2023 and a drop in the first half of 2024.
At the end of 2024 comments increased again, similar to posts, and remained stronger through the first half of 2025.
In the second half of 2025 the numbers dropped sharply. The latest 30-day average is now around 2.2k comments per day, although July was stronger than the previous months.
Posts and Comments
When we combine the posts and comments on one chart we get this.
This chart is mainly driven by comments, since their number is much higher. The peaks for posts and comments are not fully aligned. Posts reached their high at the beginning of 2022, while comments peaked later. Overall activity was highest with around 8.5k posts and comments per day in November 2022.
The increase at the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025 is also visible, followed by a steady decline. In the latest 30 days combined activity averaged around 2.5k per day.
When we plot the numbers on a monthly timeframe we get this.
There was strong growth up until 2022, followed by relatively stable monthly activity through 2023 and the beginning of 2024.
Activity dropped in 2024, recovered toward the end of the year and then moved lower again throughout 2025 and the first half of 2026.
July 2026 recorded 78.3k posts and comments, up 24% from June and the best result since February. August has 27.7k through the first 12 days, so its bar is only a partial month.
Authors
How about the numbers of the authors on the Ecency. How many accounts are posting?
Here is a chart for the monthly numbers of accounts posting.
After the initial growth in 2020 and 2021, Ecency maintained around 3k to 4k monthly active authors for a long time. This changed in late 2025 and 2026. July had 1.8k active authors, down 21% from January, while August is partial at 1.3k through the 12th.
Next the number of unique authors that posted from Ecency. These are authors that posted directly through the frontend.
The number of unique Ecency authors is still growing, although the pace has slowed in the latest period.
There are now around 41.7k unique authors that have used Ecency to post. Around 1.5k new accounts made their first Ecency post between January 29 and August 12, compared with faster growth in earlier years.
Authors that Posted the Most
Here is the rank of the authors that posted the most in the last 30 days.
Rasma is a clear outlier with 251 posts in the latest 30 days. The next accounts are much closer together: mshbd has 75, while goga22 and jlufer have 66 and 65. Some very high-frequency activity is present, together with well-known community members.
What about comments? Here is the chart.
Raxhi and zoe01 lead with around 3.3k and 3k comments in the latest 30 days. The next group ranges from 1.2k to 1.6k, showing that a relatively small number of accounts contribute a large share of Ecency comments.
Overall, Ecency activity remains well below the levels from previous years. Posts have settled near 330 per day, while comments are around 2.2k. July brought a notable rebound in monthly activity, but the number of active authors continued to decline. The app keeps adding new authors, taking the cumulative total to around 41.7k, although at a slower pace. As usual, activity tends to follow the broader HIVE market, but the coming months will show whether the July increase can develop into a more durable recovery.

Btw, I can't even imagine the amount of time the top commenters spend on this. 3,000 comments in 30 days works out to an average of 100 comments a day. That's really impressive...

Interesting data, especially the rebound in activity during July. However, I think the decline in active authors is probably the most important number to watch. Attracting new users is important, but keeping them active over time is even more important for the health of the community. I myself have moved my presence on HIVE a lot, previously I divided it between Peakd, LikeTu and Ecency. Today my activity is carried out mostly on Ecency
