More Hive Authors are using the Internal Market

Hive's Internal Market

Are you aware that Hive has a native Hive/HBD Decentralized Exchange? Because it works natively, you do not have to make any deposits or withdrawals, it just works intrinsically with your Hive account. I am aware of two front ends, one on

wallet.hive.blog / https://wallet.hive.blog/market
and the other hivedex.io, both of which allow you to log in and trade Hive for HBD immediately with Hive Keychain, with no fees. Edit: As @acidyo points out in the comments, there is also https://hivehub.dev/market

This post is just a quick look at some of the stats relating to the internal market, and how many Hive authors are using it.

Limit Orders Per Day

Here are the number of limit orders made per day, first since the 2020 Hive fork (with moving averages) and second since the beginning of Steem.

As can be seen above, the hayday was in late 2017, the same time as the Steem ATH, but recently we are seeing increasing numbers of orders every day on the Hive internal market.

Users Per Day

Below are the number of accounts using the internal market each day. Again we see largely the same story, the peak was in the Steem days, but increased usage again recently.

Usage by Active Authors

Now I want to look at it from a different angle - how many active Hive authors are using the internal market? I define an active author as someone who made a post within a calendar month. The blue bars in the charts below represent those authors who also made an internal market author within the same calendar month. These charts are only since the 2020 Hive split from Steem.

The second chart shows the same as a proportion.

As we can see, while it is still a minority of authors using it, there is increased awareness of the Hive internal market (or perhaps increased demand for HBD savings?), and now about quarter of authors also use the internal market each month.

Non-Author Usage

How about the usage by accounts that are not authors? Most accounts using the internal market are also authors.

However, the non-author accounts make the majority of orders. These are generally dedicated trading accounts, such as @hbdstabilizer

Worth noting that March 2023 represented a new high in the number of internal market orders per month.

I reckon the new UI by @peakd might be a big reason to it!

Oh, it seems that I missed that one!

Many people use this internal market to convert. You have shown it very nicely through the chart.

I remember when all my friends also left steemit, then as our power down was coming, we converted it inside the hive. Even today, if we look at that time, there are many people who used to work on Steemit. Currently people are liking and working on hive.

I think people now have started believing in HBD more and they are converting their hive in HBD to store them in savings. That's a win-win for every hive user I think.
