33kW Solar Project - Nova Scotia

In early 2019 I was hired to assist with the interconnection engineering and power system design for a 33kW ground mounted PV solar array by Natural Forces Construction.

Our Scope

We were tasked with developing the AC power system design, integration support and coordination with the utility and major equipment specification.

This included developing sealed engineering drawings, bill of material, cable list and typical trench details for the routing of power cables.

NFC completed the energy modelling and DC design of the array.

Design Overview

The system is interconnected to a single phase utility circuit at 240V, with a new single purpose service. The new meter and distribution equipment was installed on the racking under the PV panels.

Solar System Configuration

The system used 370W solar panels and 4 input, 240V micro-inverters mounted on the back of the array. The field consisted of two rows of double stacked panels spaced far enough apart to limit shading.

The micro-inverters we mounted on the backside of the structure and securely fastened to prevent mechanical damage while the array is in service.

The system put into service in Fall 2019 with no comments from the installation contractor.
