Welcome to the End

Fortnite is constantly evolving and changing, every week and almost every round, as spawns and chests randomly generate and NPC characters can be found all across the island. There are still many questions left unanswered this season but there are only 8 days left before the end.

What is the end? It seems we will have to take on the Cube Queen who is building a giant pyramid out of the fallen cubes that crashed in the wreckage. They rolled around the island and slowly transformed the map into an alien-like terrain. Now the center has become a cosmic temple. Explore the passages and notice how it has grown over the past few weeks,

This is The End- that's all we get. One frame.

So get ready for it-- we are gonna need your help!! She looks pretty tough but maybe all 15 million of us can defeat her! December 4th 2021 at 4pm ET or 2pm MT is when the battle will take place.

image.png

Here is a nice wide view of the island. You can see retail row in the top right and lazy lake below that, the crashed spacecraft around the island as well as the twisting paths the cubes crawled. There is also a sideways anomaly there at Boney Burbs and Weeping Woods at the bottom.

image.png

I am making a note of this because the map won't be this way forever. It has changed so much since I dove in for the first time, maybe two years ago. It had been a while since I had done any competitive gaming, but Fortnite has a really nice balance of elements in the game.

image.png

The map is cool, but the weapons are fun to shoot. Some are better than others but there are plenty of choices, so you can ditch a hand cannon for a regular pistol if you don't like the kick, or use nuts and bolts to side-grade your weapon from a burst-ar to a silenced-ar.

image.png

Chests give off a warm glow when you are near, and a satisfying explosion of XP, ammo and weapons when they are opened. Large vaults with gold do not glow so you have to keep your eyes peeled for hiding spots around the map. I remember when in-game Gold was just a rumour, now they force us to scavenge couches and beds to find enough gold to upgrade weapons. I miss when you could just use materials like wood or metal at upgrade benches.

image.png

Another clue for the event is this which is going up really quickly, just two days ago trucks were rolling in but now it is starting to look like foundation for a large new building.

image.png

This semi is unloading logs, likely cut down in the east of weeping woods.

image.png

Will the spires remain after The End? Will Steamy Stacks get repaired or decommissioned?

image.png

Will the alien guarding his house get to settle down and start a family?

image.png

Looks like the kids are tucked in and he is probably around somewhere close.

image.png

Will the Shark prison ruins remain when Coral Cove finally gets washed away or filled in?

image.png

Murals and memories remain on Believer Beach from their visit before the invasion. Everyone was abducted and tested, graded on our ability to bounce around and collect dragon balls.

image.png

Yet they were worthy adversaries and their high powered weapons were cool to play with. When the abductions began we quickly we learned how to shoot back and down their ships with rail guns.

image.png

Whatever changes there are at the end of season 8 after the final battle, I am sure there will be new challenges. What is the Cube Queen planning? Can she be trusted? What is her intent?

image.png

image.png

Directly underneath the capstone there are three chests which may (or may not) spawn.

image.png

Alternately you can use the south entrance by climbing two staircases.

image.png

A tempting drop spot but how many times have I died here? At least 3x, so I wonder how many players have died here in the center of the pyramid? And how many more will die next week?

image.png

Nobody dies for real, this is just a game. When a player is defeated, their consciousness is sucked back into the loop and their avatar dissolves. You just lose all your loot, and at the end of each season, your gold too. So don't forget to spend it this week! Find one of those broken vending machines and buy ammo and wood for 200 Gold like I did earlier today.

See you at The End! 8 days away.

I just started playing with my son this week. We actually make a good team and have won more duos matches than we've lost so far, which really surprised me.

We're still figuring out all the little tricks to the game, like the upgrade stations and the NPCs. I didn't realize how in depth everything is and will pay attention to see the changes as we keep playing.

and then... theres "building", a whole 'nother "game" inside of the game... takes a lot of skill to master
