RE: Suggestions To Remove Proof-of-Brain Rewards in HIVE Are Still Being Made

You made the point that I tried to convey for years.

It will only entrench those in power. While some might like that, it is not what DPoS is all about.

The only situation in which it would not cause significant harm to reduce the inflation of HIVE by removing PoB rewards would be one where dozens or more tribes have become major centers of wealth through their own successful tokenomics and thus motivated to purchase large stakes to secure a place among the top 20 witnesses.

I think this will happen and it is why the base layer payouts need to remain. Who knows if we want those people in charge either. It all comes down to state but the wider it is, the better it is for the entire ecosystem.

This is why it would be in the best interests of those currently in charge to refrain from anything threatening the decentralization of Hive.

Should it happen, and I think it will, that some of them lose their spots in the top 20 keeping the PoB rewards around could directly serve them as well by allowing them to earn by blogging about their activities and work on Hive as non-top 20 witnesses.

Distribution of the core token is vital. We see that on a lot of other blockchains. One of the biggest reasons why Hive is more decentralized (distributed) than most is the PoB mechanism. This is the reason to keep it going. Even if people are focusing upon Layer 2 tokens at the moment, that fundamental spreading out will keep taking place.

It does not happen quickly but it does happen over time.

We need to consider where things are in 5 or 10 years, not just today.

I think the current PoB mechanism has done a good job at distributing the HIVE currency, which strengthens DPoS. Wide distribution in strong and responsible hands strengthens DPoS and enables the resilience that was demonstrated during the hostile takeover.
