It has been a while since sharing anything with the SGS. So, thought while waiting for a couple items I ordered I'd share some items I had laying around waiting to be placed into mylar holders. Nothing real special but hey, it's something silver.
This is the 1923 One Florin from Great Britian. It is circulated and has seen many hands I am sure. I wonder if it passed through the hands of some British soldier's to U.S. soldier's during WWII? These are the type of things I like to think about when I collect and file these old coins.
The obverse has an uncrowned portrait of King George V. The translation, according to Numista, around the edge of the obverse means George the Fifth by the Grace of God King of all the Britains Defender of the Faith Emperor of India.

Ole' King George was king from 1910-1936. HE was also cousin to a few of the other royals across Europe. One in particular of note was his first cousin, Czar Nicholas II of Russia. I always found it really haunting how much they looked alike.
From what I have read they were also best of friends, so it must have struck him hard when the Czar and his family were killed.

The reverse of the coin has, according to Numista a, Crowned cruciform shields around central Garter star, sceptres in angles, denomination above, divided date below.
This coin has a reeded edge and is 50% silver and weighs 11.31 grams.

I will have a few more to share in the coming days, nothing fancy, but I am still waiting for the better stuff to arrive.
If you have any further information about this coin you would like to add, like historical information I left out or want to correct any I may have gotten wrong, please drop it in the comments.
Thanks for reading,
Joe

All the European royalty blue bloods are related having generations marrying/inbreeding each other over various shifting economic and political alliances, treaties made and broken over the centuries. The Habsburg chin was such a distinguishing feature of many royal nobles all over Europe.

Yeah, the inbreeding didn't do much to stop wars though, especially WWI.
Nice coin brother! I have quite a few of them stacked away somewhere. Interesting how similar George and Nicholas looked alike, I've never seen them side by side before.
!BBH
Thanks. Yeah, they had another cousin that looked like them too, but I can't remember what country he was from.
Wasn't he the King that they recently made a movie about who had a speech issue? I remember reading that Moses also had the same problem.
This coin reminds me of the tuime I bought an old photo-diary at a flea market when I was 17. It had these olde-tyme photos from like the 1880s and 90s with a very elaborate book cover. It was interesting to see how people wrote and dressed back th the 19th century. My how we've changed since then.

We had style back in the day for sure.

!LADY😊 It's great to share pieces of history like this, even if they're just 'laying around.' The story behind each coin makes it special. Who knows, maybe that 1923 One Florin really did pass through the hands of soldiers during WWII. It's fascinating to think about! Thanks for sharing, @coinjoe!

Yeah, I am getting lazy. I have a few coins I have purchased that need placed in holders and put in albums, but just haven't gotten around to doing it. They were laying on the dining room table, but my wonderful wife put an end to that. Need to get it done before my latest purchases come in the mail.
