Fractional Silver from the Local Coin Shop 5-18-2022

in Silver Gold Stackers3 years ago

These Silver Fractional Coins turned up in the US Dime junk box, at the Local Coin Shop, for $2 each. Two were produced during World War One, which at the time, was referred to, as the Great War. In Europe, the First World War, before the second.

One never knows what they might find, at a Local Coin Shop, for just a few Dollars.

This US Silver Half Dime would have been valuable in the United States, during the War Between the States or the US Civil War.

After the Civil War, the Silver Half Dime, shared the job, of Five Cents, with the newly produced, Nickel Five Cents. Both were produced, simultaneously, for about a decade, or so.

Thanks for checking it out, @olympicdragon. Yes, it is the old, “being in the right place, at the right time.”

If you find a 1888 coin in your LCS bin...
This is a dime from 1888

Thanks again, SILVER SAVER - @silversaver888. I picked up, one of those, even older, than Barber Dimes, Seated Liberty, Dimes, not long ago, so worn, barely identifiable... Unreadable date, but cool. Banks used to recycle old coins. Somehow it escaped, the smelt.

I wonder what 3 Pence could have purchased at the time, a decent meal at a diner? One night's lodging? A couple of shots of Bourbon?

How about some Big Peat Scotch Whisky?

It's strange to have all this dime silver with great value after civil War damage, it's great work. Fortunately fractional coins are great to stack

I think having this fractional silver coins on civil War will not give the same value now. We're lucky to collect them

Woah nice!

Thanks for checking it out, @trumpman. Yes, they used real money, back in the day.

And this is why I love going to my local coin shop regularly. You never do know what they will have waiting for us! Nice fractional silver.. Good addition to the stack!!

Thanks again, bdmiller - @bdmillergallery. Looks like a perfect day, here, I may walk to the LCS, today. It's only about a mile or twenty minutes away.
