1989 $5 Canada Proof Maple Leaf, ๐Ÿ Happy Canada Day! ๐Ÿ

โ€œBlack birds tend to like shiny things.โ€ ~ The Bloody Raven.

Happy Canada Day also known as Dominion Day to my Canadian and Non-Canadian friends here. And a Happy 4th of July to my American friends as well since weโ€™re in the neighborhood. ๐Ÿ

This 1989 Edition of the Maple Leaf silver bullion coin celebrates itโ€™s 10th anniversary of gracing Canadaโ€™s bullion coins since entering into the investment market.

Under the authorization of the Canadian government, the Royal Canadian mintโ€™s special program issued itโ€™s first 1 Troy oz. gold Maple leaf on September 5, 1979.

The gold Half Troy Oz, enter the bullion market in 1986.
The gold Quarter Troy Oz. and one tenth troy Oz. coins entered the market in 1982 and, the gold one tenth troy Oz. in 1993.
There is a proof 1989 Gold One troy Oz. Maple Leaf also issued alongside this Silver Proof version.

The fields on both sides are in a spectacular mirror finish. The frosted cameo finish lends a dramatic contrast and depth of both the Maple Leaf and Queen Elizabeth's effigy. My followers are familiar with my style of coin photography. I often hold a black card above the coin to emphasize the coin subject. Silver looks so much better on a black background.

This post started with this beautiful solid Maple wood clam shell being empty with no coin, which meant the coin was buried in my stack somewhere. Why my Father or even I would remove the coin from itโ€™s original case is a mystery and I had to comb through my many capsuled coins to find it.

It is a Proof quality specimen so I hope I didnโ€™t inadvertently take it out of the capsule and stuffed it into one of the many tubes of Maples during one of those stack reorganization campaigns.

I finally found this proof nestled in a miscellaneous box of other capsuled coins, a bit scratched but tight fitting into the display case. The capsule was considerably smudged with some scratches. I tried to photograph it out of the capsule but the coin was wedged in too tight. I had to photograph the coin inside the capsule and then digitally cleaned up the distracting elements.

This 1989 Silver Maple Leaf is only the second year of the Silver Maple Leaf program. A fine specimen of a coin but at a steep issue price of $70CAD.

Bonus Feature; The 1900 25 Cent 'Shinplaster'.

I'll have to give credit to @punkysdad having borrowed this lovely old little banknote from his collection of paper currency. The feel of the heavy paper-linen has a distinct texture and a feel typical of the old cold press paper stock.

The banknote here is what is commonly referred to as a โ€œShinplasterโ€ the second issue following the 1870 Issue.

The purpose of these small denomination notes were to alleviate an exchange issue to stem inward flow of depreciated American silver compared to gold at the time of the American civil war. Canadian business and institutions were suffering losses as they accepted the American coin at face value.

The note was part of a three pronged approach to a temporary exchange intervention until prices returned to normal. These notes became popular and persisted in circulation for 65 years.

The term โ€˜Shinplasterโ€™ was attributed to solders of the Revolutionary War using US fractional notes in their boots to prevent chafing from about 1837 to 1838. The same term just happen to stick onto these Dominion of Canadian notes since 1870.

It's also Hive Power up day!

With recent the low price action of Hive who can pass up a deal here. I've been slowly buying Hive at this point of the Market. So for this Canada Day I will power up another 120 Hive to my current 21,800 Hive Power staked.
I will put the confirmation in the comments.

Happy Canada Day friends!

Even happier when we kick Justin Trudeau out of office, the sooner the better.

Stacking Hive and Precious metals for that dark and stormy night!

The #piratesunday tag is the scurvy scheme of Captain @stokjockey for #silvergoldstackers pirates to proudly showcase their shiny booty and plunder for all to see. Landlubbers arrrhโ€ฆ welcomed to participate and be a Pirate at heart so open yer treasure chests anโ€™ show us what booty yea got!

And thank you @traciyork, @hivebuzz and the cast of generous contributors for this fun initiative of #hivepowerupday and #HivePUD. Though I have well crossed beyond the threshold in terms of eligibility I can still enjoy a bit of fun and continue to encourage my followers.

Happy Canada day K! That shinplaster note is cool.

These old Dominion notes do have a feel different far from the current polymer we have today. I'm sure it's not copy paper. These look hand cut out of a sheet with a noticeable nick from an adjacent banknote, technically a cutting error.
Thanks for dropping in @fat-elvis
I hope you had a fine Canada Day ๐Ÿ

When all that debt self destructs and drag down the Canadian markets 50, 60, 70%+ I can expect the politicians and business bigwigs will be hungry for real assets and sound capital to legally steal from those that are prepared.

I look for a photo of it or take a photo tonight.

Happy Canada Day! I love that maple leaf, it is so pretty. The note is really interesting too and in great shape for issue in 1870. I didn't know they produced bills for 25 cents, that is a beauty. I hope you're doing well, it' always great to see you post!

There were three versions; 1870, 1900 for this one, and the final version 1929 each having a distinctive Vignette for the front and back. Bank notes make great backgrounds for coins adding a little context and visual variety.
I struggled a bit trying to get this out on Canada day, I felt that barely got everything together to post.
Thanks @thebighigg

A cool little banknote with a surprisingly high collector's value considering it's extra fine condition and makes for a great background for older coins too.

Wow... The bloody raven made a post.

Its a new month miracle!!๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Happy hive power up day and nice coins i see thereโœจ๐ŸŒš

It's a bit of a struggle posting if I can do it through the brain fog, and when my right hand would work. Otherwise it kind of sucks photo editing and typing the whole post with just my left hand. I hope I can get back to my regular writing rhythm. I'm not out of the woods yet, still need that miracle @seki1

Its coming b..

Don't worry and take your time!โœจ

25 cent bill wow, I don't think I have ever seen this low of an amount on a bill before but it's really cool. Is it still tradeable?
That's a very nice proof maple leaf and it came with a cool wooden case. I don't normally go for proofs do to the cost but I do really like them.

I think it was originally my father's coin before it was handed down to me.
The old banknote definitely has a collectors book value, even more it is also technically deemed an Error note.
They were hand cut, a bit of the next note below it does add an extra dimension and premium.
