Money has a way of humbling you. One day, you feel like you’re doing alright, and the next, you’re staring at your bank app, wondering how life got so expensive so fast.

You don't get into debt all of a sudden. It just slowly tightens its hold little by little.

A lot of people are going through that right this moment. People who work hard. People who try their best. People who didn’t make huge mistakes — just normal decisions in a world that moves a little too fast and costs a little too much.

And the hardest part is how quiet it all is. Nobody wants to admit they’re struggling. Nobody wants to say, “Hey, I’m drowning a little.” So everyone keeps smiling while carrying this heavy, invisible weight.

But let me share something I’ve learned: getting out of that mess doesn’t start with some big dramatic move. It starts small. Really small. Saving a little at a time, even if it feels almost pointless in the beginning... five bucks... ten bucks. Whatever you can manage without breaking yourself. It’s less about the amount and more about proving to yourself that you can take control again.

The truth can feel heavy, but it doesn’t mean things are over. Debt doesn’t have to live with you for the rest of your life. You can steady things. You can build something better. And it really does start with one small step. The kind that seems almost too small to matter, but ends up being the thing that slowly turns everything around.

I love them, such awesome silver. I know the feeling how life gets expensive very quickly, before I became disabled I was making great money! These days I have to watch those accounts like a hawk. The day of moving out of California is approaching quickly I fear, it's just so expensive. A trip to the dentist was painful enough today! lol Not from the dental work, but the bill that followed!

I hope you can keep up with those bills and get the mortgage paid off, that is such a relief to have out of your hair. The taxes don't stop coming though...

I dread going in for dental appointments!
Yup, I have one year to go for my current mortgage payments!! I can't believe I have shortened my payments from 15 to 10 years, just adding to the principal payments!!! So next year I will probably get another income property! CELEBRATION!!!

While reading your article, I realized something. For the first 22 years of my life, communism ruled my country. People couldn't make bad financial decisions because they couldn't make almost any decisions. The regime decided everything for them.

Then came change. People gained freedom. Including the freedom to make mistakes. And many made truly enormous mistakes.
Judging by the results of today's elections in our country, I would say that many people miss the days of slavery, when someone else did their thinking for them and did not allow them to make mistakes freely. I don´t miss those days.

That’s a powerful reflection, and it really shows how much things change when people suddenly have freedom after years of having every decision made for them. Once that responsibility lands in your own hands, especially with money, the learning curve can be steep. And like you said, some people end up longing for the days when they didn’t have to think for themselves.

But the truth is, we’ve been given the freedom to think things through and shape our own financial paths. It’s a hard lesson, but it’s also what helps us grow.

Very true words! I made some bad decisions before my wife and I got together that took a while to dig out of financially. Looking back know it feels like a lot of wasted time when I really did know better.

I went to the guy's site as I had never heard of him before. Saw the two "coins of the week" and thought "the guy is using silver to make political points". A form of art/propaganda. I collect propaganda - I'm fond of Soviet propaganda, not because I agree with the ideology (I don't) but the quality and craftsmanship is really good. The space race badges are enamel beauties - some silver and gold too. US poster propaganda in the 20thC is good too (You would expect it to as The US invented the concept and were the first to open specialized departments).

This guy mixing political messages was a good artistic idea but I thought that they weren't very good pieces of art. I read a bit more and sure enough the guy studied politics and what's more he considered himself an artist. Read a bit more and he proclaimed himself a genius. I nearly wet myself laughing. He just waved "bye" to his cred.

One of these days I'll post some of my coinage. Highlights include a silver sheckel of Tyre (look that one up if you don't know the significance). A Napoleon 1st gold 10 Francs for 1815 (when he lost at Waterloo and was exiled to St Helena), A Nicholas 2nd gold 10 roubles for 1917 (the year of the Russian revolution). Gold and silver square Edo period coinage from Japan (I use to live there). There was a store in Tokyo where you could just walk in and buy kilo bars of gold and silver. I couldn't resist that and got a kilo of silver. So easy, no different to buying a coffee.

Vintage Chris Duane's Silver Shield pieces Sis. They bring me back to the time I've made the decision to begin Stacking. It was a logical choice, and contributions to my RRSP/IRA ceased in favor of this strategy.

I remember my first purchase of three silver Maple leafs, they were shiny new, heftier and the real thing. A few coins every month or two, steady, consistent and more than 12 years later my results has been very impressive.
