For those who know me, and as I said many times in the past, my ultimate goal is gold.
With a small budget for precious metals a month, I could only afford to buy a fractional gold coin and a few silver pieces. For this reason, most of the pieces I have are 1/10 oz and 1/4 oz gold coins.
I have not sold any silver since I started my stacking journey... until now.
The gold-to-silver ratio provides insight into the relative value of these two precious metals. It is calculated by dividing the current spot price of gold by the current spot price of silver.
Below is a 5-year chart of gold-to-silver ratio.
Well, you all know what is happening to the ratio lately! Just look at the chart.
So, towards the end of December, I decided to trade some silver for gold.
After calling for an appointment, I packed a few ounces of silver and headed out to a local coin shop in Sacramento.
At the local coin shop...
I changed my mind and decided to keep two rolls my American Silver Eagles. I don't know why... I bought them for less that $20.00:
John, the co-owner of the local coin shop, took all coin containers, which, in hindsight, I should have kept... but who cares!
I was so pleased with the results!!!
I now have added two large gold coins to my gold stack. I could never afford to get in cash, because they are expensive!

Good stuff saver! Ive been watching the GSR closely. My problem is my local shop is sold out of everything, every day lately!
I heard that some LCS have temporarily closed! Maybe they went on a holiday break, or it's because their inventory is nil, or they ran out of cash. Gold is pretty scarce! I lucked out, my LCS had these two large US coins left... the exact coins that I want. I am pretty ecstatic, @fat-elvis!!!

I remember that this was your plan, I did see the GSR dip below your magic number and wondered if you had pulled the trigger yet. My target is closer to 50 since I have already achieved my primary gold stack quantity, I can afford to wait further compression of this ratio before shifting to gold.

It's been quite the long road Sis, we were Stacking rookies but we kept it up through plenty of ups and downs. Some years were challenging. I look back so amazed at we accomplished by saving in gold and silver.

Do wait until you have researched it to death. Know that for centuries gold has been a store of wealth. You can start small by buying silver!

I am so tired of the clowns who keep shouting z” but but it’s 1-10 outta ground so the ratio must go to 10-1”. It’s never happening! At least not likely ever. Good idea sticking to plan! Even if it temporarily goes to 50-1 or 40-1 it sounds like you did long term planning & made tight move! I thought about selling 20% my silver if $80 held that last Monday but as expected we got correction from that crazy pre-market $83.00 move.
I got most my silver not from DCAing but from trading Bitcoin for it when Bitcoin hit 15K in December 2017, a sweet amount! Then I In 2019 used a quarter of that silver to buy back slmost same amount of Bitcoin I sold way higher. I have got lucky catching good timing but I said if it corrects 75% I would do it, it did but by time I moved things around it went up a lil and I was slightly off. But I only did so because I planned it long before it happened! That’s how we win! Luck is years later looking back and seeing it was right near bottom of top, but even if it doesn’t end up being that, it’s still a win! Gold on other hand I have only DCA’d and bought regularly, silver I played by buying big amounts below $20 mostly, besides adding a couple ounces to a larger gold order. Good on u sticking to plan! That’s how we win!

I am glad I held to that plan of following GSR. You see, I don't normally sell stuff, so I set the GSR relatively low, not knowing what the future holds. But lo and behold, the low GSR was hit! So I traded.
I am still buying as usual, adding to the stack.
I might go back to trade some more.

I'd be careful with the silver, there is still room for a better ratio. Traditionally it was around 30-1 or so. But since silver is a important material in modern electronics (solar panels, possible new types of batteries and more) it could even get higher than that. Just be patient and watch how things develope.
I don't sell just to have money. I don't need money. I exchanged my silver for gold coins, and I guess that is alright!

Sure you can do that. The question is just which has more potential to rise. But thats hard to tell, especially when looking at how things are going right now, with geopolitics and Trump and all.
What I'm still keeping in mind is a new technology that needs silver - lots of it. Like a new type of batteries for cars. There was rumors of that recently. If that comes true, silver could see 100 or 200 or even more.
But to know that now needs a crystal ball. There are lots of reasons that speak for gold, too. War, inflation, economical troubles - and not at least that its easier to hide and transport than silver.
You are right, you will need a cyrstal ball, !LOL
So just take a day at a time, make the best decisions, if necessary, based on what you have.
