Day five of my 12 Days of Christmas Precious Metals Wishlist marks a special moment, as we make the jump from silver to gold. It might only be a tiny fraction of the precious yellow metal, but the humble 1g gold bar earns its place today as the perfect entry point into the world of gold stacking.
There’s something truly satisfying about holding even the smallest piece of gold. It might weigh less than a paperclip, yet it carries a sense of value and permanence that silver, for all its shine, simply can’t match. Gold has been a symbol of wealth and stability for thousands of years, and even in today’s uncertain times, that hasn’t changed. In fact, it’s become even more relevant.

The price of gold has gone galactic lately, with premiums climbing across the board. These tiny 1g bars now start at around £125 and up, depending on the brand and design. Whether it’s a PAMP Suisse, Valcambi, or Royal Mint bar, each one comes sealed in its assay card, gleaming like a miniature treasure. They make a brilliant gift for new stackers or a symbolic addition to any collection something small, affordable, yet undeniably meaningful.
For me, this marks the point in the countdown where the wishlist moves from silver’s bulk and accessibility to gold’s elegance and prestige. The 1g bar may be small, but it’s a mighty step up in both value and sentiment. As I like to say, every stack starts with a single gram, and what better time than Christmas to add that first glimmer of gold?
I will miss those days of cheap 1 oz. gold, I will miss it even more the day I won't be able afford the 1 gram size. Until then, keep stacking that gold while we can.
