I was reading a post by @buggedout the other day, where he talked about good gaming: a parents perspective. He talked about how certain games and gaming can effect children, and the responsibilities as parents we have over exposing our kids to certain games. In his post, he talked about the game Monopoly.... and then, low and behold, the [Royal Mint](www.royalmint.com] go ahead and release this little gem of a silver(and gold) coin.

The Royal Mint has done it again, and this time, they’ve hit me right in the nostalgia. The brandnew 2025 Monopoly 50p coin has just been released, and this is one I’ll 100% be adding to my collection... As someone who grew up playing Monopoly for hours with my family, this coin feels like more than just a commemorative piece , it’s a memory frozen in silver.

Monopolly taught me so much as a kid. It taught me patience (those games could last forever), humility (there’s nothing like landing on Mayfair with a hotel when you’re broke), and perhaps most importantly, how to be utterly ruthless when making financial decisions. I’m convinced Monopoly was my first real introduction to strategy, negotiation, and yes, the cutthroat world of property development ,all from the comfort of my living room floor.

The coin itself is beautiful. Struck in 925 sterling silver, finished to proof standard, and featuring a splash of colour, it really stands out. The reverse shows Mr. Monopoly, iconic property cards, and the classic tokens we all know and love. But the coolest feature is the lenticular design — tilt the coin one way and you see the “GO” sign, tilt it the other and it transforms into the Monopoly “M” money symbol. It’s like the coin is winking at every collector who grew up trying to pass GO and collect £200.

With a limited edition of just 4,500, I can see these becoming very sought after. It’s also worth noting that one lucky person will even find a gold version of the coin — hidden away, waiting to be discovered like a secret Community Chest card.

For me, this coin isn’t just another addition to the stack. It’s a reminder of rainy afternoons, sibling rivalries, and the thrill of building a hotel empire. And that’s the beauty of collecting — sometimes it’s about the silver content, sometimes it’s about the history, but every so often, it’s about something as simple as a childhood memory immortalised in metal.

Nice one. Interesting that they are giving away a gold one.

Yes, I did learn a lot from the game too in hindsight. I still get a kick reading the rules about what happens when the bank runs out of money...

Is that a life lesson...or a spoiler alert?

That's awesome. We used to play monopoly a lot in the 80's! I wish the Royal Mint would make the coins 999 silver more often, but they always seem to be 925 so theres 15% tax on them here. No tax on 999 at all.

I lost plenty of times playing this game when I was a kid.
I don't even remember ever winning one either.
