As we approach the 80th anniversary of D-Day, The Royal Mint has just unveiled a remarkable tribute to one of history’s most significant military operations. The newly released 50p coin, struck in 925 sterling silver and finished to the highest Proof standard, commemorates the courageous Allied troops who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. This limited edition coin, with only 5,000 pieces available, offers collectors and history enthusiasts a tangible connection to the valor and sacrifice that marked the turning point of World War II.

The reverse of the coin, masterfully designed by David Lawrence, captures a poignant moment from D-Day. The image depicts troops wading ashore, evoking the perilous journey undertaken by around 156,000 Allied soldiers who risked everything to liberate Europe from Nazi occupation. The intricate detailing of the design highlights the soldiers' bravery, with each line and curve meticulously crafted to preserve the memory of their heroic deeds.

What sets this 50p coin apart is its Proof standard finish, a hallmark of The Royal Mint’s commitment to excellence. Proof coins are renowned for their superior quality, achieved through a meticulous and labor-intensive process. Each die used to strike these coins is hand-finished to eliminate imperfections, ensuring that every detail of the design is rendered with exceptional clarity. Blanks are carefully fed into the coin press by hand and struck up to six times at a lower speed and pressure, which preserves the finer details and results in a coin of stunning sharpness and depth.

The creation of this commemorative coin was developed with the assistance of the Imperial War Museums (IWM), ensuring historical accuracy and reverence. This collaboration underscores the importance of preserving and honoring the legacy of those who fought on D-Day. The IWM's involvement guarantees that the coin is not only a collector’s item but also an educational piece, fostering a deeper understanding of the events that unfolded on that pivotal day.

Everyone is very happy with silver price going up and we will try to continue DCA in the same way to get good profit in future all these coins are very beautiful.

This is the sort of thing I was looking for to give my nephew last year. I might need to step beyond the .999 stuff I have been looking at.

These coins will be entering circulation. Now, they wont be 925, but a cupro-nickel (base metal) composition, but if i come across a few, ill send you one.

Or you can buy dirext from the royal mint?? The cupro-nickel version is about £12($16) i think!! But you get all the coin information and packaging sent with it then.

That sounds cool with all the packaging and stuff. I will probably go that route. Thanks for the offer though!

It must be expensive!

Its not cheap @silversaver888 ..... It comes in at an eye watering £61 per coin (8g of 925).

When I was little, I recall watching films with my family about that battle. I think is great that the Royal Mint minted a commemorative coin for D-Day. That would be a wonderful collaboration coin. Many US soldiers died in that battle.

"Rule Britannia?"

Not any more ..... were so incompetent at the moment, Britania couldnt rule a chicken coop

Speaking of Incompetent, Backyard Bullion finally turns his back on Royal Mint products citing 10 reasons why he will not do business with the Royal Mint ever again. Do you feel the same way?

I was speaking to him the other day. Its the fact that the RM, once again, put profits above people. When they cancelled their monarch's series, they shouted from the roof top that they value their margins and profit lines above their reputation....

His Quote, "Money grubbers." Putting it lightly.
