nice post. i noticed the bench in memory of roger and marian stiklestad with the "if you have a garden and a library..."qoute. the family name stiklestad is definitely from the very important historical place stiklestad in norway. it was customary for people born on a farm to use the name of the farm as their last name. it is there that the exiled king olav was killed when he attempted to return to power. he was a brutal tyrant in many ways not the least the way in which norway was both unified and converted to christianity. supposedly upon his death some miraculous events occurred after which he was canonized. this led to a more peaceful consolidation of christianity throughout the land. anyway it is very likely that your roger stiklestad was a descendant of folk involved in the battle
