Hello, Earth Science lovers. Today I'm going to talk to you about a peculiar cast in Guanabacoa, Cuba, known as The Naturists. Personally I am fascinated by the fusion between geology, livestock and agriculture so I will focus the blog on this topic.
Hola, amantes de las Ciencias de la Tierra. Hoy les voy a hablar sobre un peculiar reparto en Guanabacoa, Cuba, conocido como Los Naturistas. Personalmente me fascina la fusión entre la geología, la ganadería y la agricultura así que centraré el blog sobre este tema.
The Naturists is located at the end of Sergio Gonzales Street, just after crossing a bridge. At the entrance to the site, a large sign over the river conveys an ecological message about garbage and the importance of taking care of the environment.
El reparto de Los Naturistas se encuentra al final de la calle Sergio Gonzales, justo después de cruzar un puente. A la entrada del lugar, se puede apreciar un gran cartel sobre el río que transmite un mensaje ecológico sobre la basura y la importancia de cuidar el entorno.

At present, the distribution has a small population. In the past, they were dedicated exclusively to living off what nature provided, hence their name: The Naturists. However, nowadays, the people who live there also eat meat and industrial products.
The fertile soil and varied topography of the zone, together with the presence of the river, have been fundamental for the development of agriculture and the supply of water for both human consumption and crops.
The terrain in the area is made up of sedimentary rocks such as limestone and clay (you can identify it in the photos by the brownish color of the soil), which have been eroded over time, creating beautiful valleys that favor the diversity of crops and ecosystems. The presence of these rocks influences water availability, soil stability, and the formation of quality pastures that benefit livestock.
The limestone and clay rocks present in the soil at The Naturists provide minerals and micronutrients that favor plant growth and the health of livestock.
Limestone provides calcium to the soil, improving its structure and favoring nutrient absorption by plants. Clayey rocks retain water in the soil, improving water availability for plants and preventing erosion.
The main economic activity in The Naturists is agriculture and cattle raising, while other needs are covered by visiting the town. The preservation of natural resources is fundamental to maintaining the ecological balance of the area and ensuring the sustainability of agricultural and livestock activities.
The Naturists area is a place with beautiful geology and blessed land, where the community lives in harmony with nature and benefits from the resources it provides.
En la actualidad, el reparto cuenta con una pequeña población. En el pasado, se dedicaban exclusivamente a vivir de lo que la naturaleza les proporcionaba, de ahí su nombre: Los Naturistas. Sin embargo, actualmente, las personas que viven allí también comen carne y productos industriales.
El suelo fértil y la topografía variada de la zona, junto con la presencia del río, han sido fundamentales para el desarrollo de la agricultura y el abastecimiento de agua tanto para consumo humano como para cultivos.
El terreno de la zona está conformado por rocas sedimentarias como calizas y arcillas (puedes identificarlo en las fotos por el color parduzco del suelo), las cuales han sido erosionadas a lo largo del tiempo, creando valles hermosos que favorecen la diversidad de cultivos y ecosistemas. La presencia de estas rocas influye en la disponibilidad de agua, la estabilidad del suelo y la formación de pastos de calidad que benefician la ganadería.
Las rocas calizas y arcillosas presentes en el suelo de Los Naturistas aportan minerales y micronutrientes que favorecen el crecimiento de las plantas y la salud del ganado.
Las calizas aportan calcio al suelo, mejorando su estructura y favoreciendo la absorción de nutrientes por las plantas. Por su parte, las rocas arcillosas retienen el agua en el suelo, mejorando la disponibilidad hídrica para las plantas y evitando la erosión.
La principal actividad económica en Los Naturistas es la agricultura y la ganadería, mientras que otras necesidades son cubiertas mediante la visita a la ciudad. La preservación de los recursos naturales es fundamental para mantener el equilibrio ecológico del reparto y asegurar la sostenibilidad de las actividades agrícolas y ganaderas.
La zona de Los Naturistas es un lugar con una geología hermosa y una tierra bendecida, donde la comunidad vive en armonía con la naturaleza y se beneficia de los recursos que esta les brinda.
