A Quick Caturday Post

in Happy Catz3 months ago

My cat homie Snoopy showed up the other day with a bad limp. Looked like he got into another fight. He disappeared for a couple days which is very unusual, then showed up at 5 a.m. the other day with a really bad limp. He's been living in my office. The weathers has been pretty crap, but beautiful scenery. I'm really glad he's in the house with me though. I'd hate for him to be outside in this weather while injured. He loves it outside though, I feel terrible that he's stuck in the house.

Baby it's cold outside!

We've been getting hit with a lot of snow, but thankfully because of where I'm located by the lake, we're missing a lot of it. Believe it or not, people in surrounding areas have A LOT MORE. That photo was taken yesterday morning.

Snoopy, my feral friend. Recovering under the blanket.

Some of you may recall Snoopy was part of a feral cat colony that was living in my garage. They made residence there during a snowstorm 2 or 3 years ago. It was him and two other cats. He's the last of them. The others all disappeared. We've become really good friends over the years though. He's pretty much like a normal house cat with me now. He still doesn't let many other people get near him with the exception of a few of my family members.

We made a room for him in the basement and he's actually become pretty domesticated. This is the first time he's come home after being in a fight since he started living in the basement. He pretty much has run of the house these days, but the basement is his when he wants to get away from the family, and the dog. 🤣

I take him to the vet on Tuesday. At first I thought his leg was broke, but he started putting pressure on it today. I think it's just a really bad sprain or hopefully very light fracture. Hopefully the vet can just make him a splint and he'll be alright. I'm still paying for the abscess he had at the beginning of last summer. Also caused by a fight.

Personally, I'd love to keep him in the house, but he just sits by the door and cries to go out. He's made his decision. All I can do now, is care for him the best I can.

So for the X version. "Snoopy is back and living in the house. He has a limp, and hopefully it's nothing serious. We'll find out Tuesday." ..... The joy of microblogging!

Happy Caturday everyone.

There's a lot to be said for longer form blogs. Not everything can fit in a tweet.

We'd freak out if our cat was away for any time, but she stays in at night. The other one we adopted recently was very shy, but is getting tamer and will sit with us. We're not letting her out until we think she will reliably come back.

It must be hard for outdoor cats around you when it gets really cold. They will seek out any shelter they can find.

No doubt. Microblogging serves its purpose. I like long form for most stuff. Short form is fun to though.

I have a forever cat that stays in the house with me. If her ever got out, I'd freak out. He too was a feral, but he hasn't gone out in like 10 years. He has no interest in outside AT ALL. Snoopy on the other hand, has no interest in the house at all. He was born under our neighbors steps. He pretty much only comes in when the weather is bad and even then it's mainly for a bowl of food or some water. Then right back to the door and he cries until someone lets him out. During the colder months he tends to come in at night to sleep. In the summer, forget about it. Food, water, and right back out the door. His choice, not ours.😆

It doesn't seem to bother this cat, but I think he's part Norwegian or Maine Coon, both breeds tend to like the cold weather. But, yes, I suspect the winter months are really tough for most cats around here. I'm really glad this cat lets me bring him in when the weather is bad now.

It was kind of funny. He had never been in a house before and the first time he was afraid of everything. The TV, the mirror in the hallway, any loud noise. It took him a few months to get used to the inside of the house.
