Hello,
We have left behind the month of Ramadan, our holiest month. Right after, we will experience the Ramadan Feast, which will last for three days. Today is the first day of the holiday. I congratulate all of you on the holiday with my sincere wishes. I will spend the holiday in Kaş, one of the charming districts of Antalya. I am planning to stop by the coasts, ancient cities and natural beauties on the road routes I take on my way. Here, the ancient city that got stuck in my first route was Rhodiapolis Ancient City.
There are two different ways to go from Antalya to Kaş. The first one is on the Antalya Korkuteli road, and the other is on the Antalya Kemer road, which consists entirely of the coast. Although the road is long and winding, I preferred the coast. I wanted to see both the beautiful sea coasts of the Mediterranean and the ancient cities close to the coast. The ancient city of Rhodiapolis is located on this road in Antalya's Kumluca district. Located in Sarıcasu Village of Kumluca district, the city looks like a hidden city built on a high hill, among pine trees and braided grasses.
The city sees the Kumluca district and the sea very clearly on a high peak. Although at the entrance was the administrative building of the Ministry of Culture, it was not actively working. After passing through that entrance for free, you can reach the city by walking for about fifteen minutes on a steep, dirt road. As you walk, you see the bright white daisy flowers, which herald the arrival of spring, on the sides of the dirt road, winking at us. I couldn't go upstairs without smelling these flowers and watching them to the fullest. Leaving myself among the flowers, I lay on my back and took a breather. It felt good to breathe the fragrant white flowers. While walking through the city, some of the city's stones are scattered around and placed one by one among the grass.
When I enter the city, there is an ancient theater on the left side that we see in almost every ancient city, a monumental tomb in the middle, and stones and walls with ancient writings on it that have survived to the present day. The greenery and forest areas surrounding these stones and walls add a different beauty to the city. Even in one section, two stone walls were opened in the form of a hollow and a wide channel was created. The inside of this channel was covered with grasses and lawns over time.
Let's take a look at the story of the Rhodiapolis Ancient City. As the name of the city suggests, it is known as a city founded by the Rhodesians. It is one of the Rhodes colony in the region, such as Olympos, Phaselis and Gagai, located nearby. All cities in the region are members of the Lycian League. Rhodiapolis takes its name from Mopsos' daughter, Rhodos. The most famous figure of the city is Opramoas. It is known that he was one of the richest and most charitable people of Lycia during the reign of Antonius Pius. Opramoas was honored with annual honors by the union for his services to the Lycian League. In the name of Opramoas, a mausoleum was built in the middle of the city. Source
When I examine the walls and stones of the city closely, I realize that they were made with great mastery and craftsmanship. While touring the city, they placed a smooth stairway to allow passage to certain sections. There are four doors in front of the theater and a separate section for the entrance to the stage. I think people who are probably preparing to go on stage are preparing here. Behind the theater is the monumental tomb built for Opramoas. Towering walls were built on the sides of the tomb, the upper parts of which were slightly damaged. We can also see old writings on these walls.
When you look around from the ancient city, Kumluca is under your feet. You can immediately understand how valuable and important livelihood is greenhouse cultivation in the district from the beautiful scenery. It was built on a fertile plain in the city. At this high peak, you can see the city walls scattered among the greenery and the different shapes of the stones. The square-shaped stones of the monumental tomb consist of white and column-like stones. Some of its stones are scattered on the sides. The interior of the monumental tomb is also surrounded by green grass.
There is also a long road at the entrance of the ancient city. There is a tree at the end of this road, as if reminding me that the journey of life, despite all the difficulties, can be overcome and never despair. I want to share that picture with you.

En kutsal ayımız olan Ramazan ayını geride bıraktık. Hemen ardından üç gün sürecek olan Ramazan Bayramını yaşayacağız. Bugün bayramın birinci günüdür. Hepinizin bayramını en içten dileklerimle kutlarım. Ben bayramı Antalya'nın şirin ilçelerimizden olan Kaş'ta geçireceğim. Yola çıkarken gittiğim yol güzergahlarında bulunan sahil kenarlarına, antik kentlere ve doğal güzellere uğramayı planlıyorum. İşte ilk rotama takılan antik şehir de Rhodiapolis Antik Kent oldu.
Antalya'dan Kaş'a iki farklı yoldan gidiliyor. Bunlardan ilki Antalya Korkuteli yolu üzerinden, diğeri ise tamamen sahil kenarından oluşan Antalya Kemer yolu üzerinden gidiliyor. Ben, yolu uzun ve virajlı olmasına rağmen sahil kenarını tercih ettim. Hem Akdeniz'in o güzel deniz kıyılarını hem de sahile yakın antik kentleri görmek istiyordum. İşte Rhodiapolis Antik Kenti de, bu yol üzerinde Antalya'nın Kumluca ilçesinde yer alıyor. Kumluca ilçesinin Sarıcasu Köyünde yer alan kent, yüksek bir tepe noktasında çam ağaçları ve örgülü bitki otlarının arasında kurulmuş saklı bir kent görünümdedir.
Kent, yüksek bir tepe noktasında Kumluca ilçesini ve denizi çok net görmektedir. Girişinde Kültür Bakanlığının idari binası olmasına rağmen, aktif olarak çalışmıyordu. O girişten ücretsiz olarak geçtikten sonra, dik, toprak bir yoldan yaklaşık on beş dakika yürüyerek kentte ulaşabiliyorsunuz. Yürürken toprak yolun kenarlarında baharın gelişini müjdeleyen ışıl ışıl bizlere göz kırpan bembeyaz papatya çiçeklerini görüyorsunuz. Bu çiçekleri koklamadan onları doyasına izlemeden yukarıya çıkamazdım. Kendimi çiçeklerin arasına bırakarak sırt üstü uzandım ve biraz soluklandım. Mis gibi kokan beyaz çiçekleri solumak iyi hissettirmişti. Kentte doğru yürürken, kentin bazı taşları dağınık olarak etrafa konulmuş ve tek tek çimenlerin arasına yerleştirilmiş.
Kentte giriş yaptığım da, sol tarafında hemen hemen her antik kentte gördüğümüz antik bir tiyatro, ortasında anıtsal bir mezar ve çevresinde üzerinde eski yazılar olan ve günümüze kadar gelmiş olan taş ve duvarlar var. Bu taş ve duvarların etrafını çevrelen yeşillik ve ormanlık alanlarda kentte ayrı bir güzellik katıyor. Hatta bir bölümde iki taş duvarlar bir oyuk şeklinde açılarak geniş bir kanal oluşturulmuş. Bu kanalın içi zamanla bitki otları ve çimenliklerle kaplanarak kapanmış.
Rhodiapolis Antik Kent, hikayesine şöyle bir göz gezdirelim Kentin adından da anlaşılacağı üzere, Rodosluların kurmuş olduğu bir şehir olarak anılıyor. Antik kentten çevreye baktığınızda Kumluca ayaklarınızın altındadır. İlçede seracılığın ne kadar değerli ve önemli bir geçim kaynağı olduğunu güzel manzaradan hemen anlayabilirsiniz. Kentte verimli bir ova üzerine kurulmuş. Bu yüksek tepe noktasında yeşilliklerin arasında dağınık olarak yerleşmiş olan kent duvarlarını ve taşların farklı şekillerini görebilirsiniz. Anıtsal mezarın kare şeklindeki taşları bembeyaz ve sütun gibi taşlardan oluşuyor. Bazı taşları da yanlarda dağınık bir şekilde duruyor. Anıtsal mezarın içi de yeşil otlarla çevrilmiştir.
Bir de sizlere antik kentin giriş kısmında bulunan uzun bir yol var. Bu yolun sonunda da bir ağaç var ki: bana sanki hayat yolculuğunun, tüm zorluklara rağmen, aşılabileceğini ve umutsuzluğa asla kapılmaması gerektiğini anımsattı. İşte o resmi de sizlerle paylaşmak istiyorum.

İlk kez taşlarının bu kadar diri ve yapılarının düzgün olduğu bir antik kent gördüm galiba. Çok sağlam yapmışlar. Konumu da çok güzel. İlk önce nasıl olsa her yer boş, manzaralı bir yere kuralım şehri mantığıyla oraya kurulduğunu düşünsem de sonra aklıma güvenlik geldi. 😂
Rodoslular bu işi iyi yapıyor. Farklı bir mimarisi olduğunu hemen anlaşılıyor. 😊 Böyle antik kentlerde bir tiyatro salonunun mutlaka olması ve sanata bu denli ilgi göstermeleri benim çok dikkatimi çekti. Eskiler, eğlenmeyi ve gülmeyi de ihmal etmemişler. Hep savaşacak değiller dimi...😂
