Urriðafoss and Ægissíðufoss Waterfalls

Here I have two waterfalls to show you Urriðafoss and Ægissíðufoss. Both of these are located in southern Iceland near the main route number 1 that circles the country. I tried to find waterfalls from Google Maps that I still have yet to see in Iceland. In theory, it's not a hard task because Iceland is full of waterfalls but I needed waterfalls that are easy to access and quick to get to because we had other places to be that day. Well, I found these two and decided to give them a visit.

Urriðafoss

Urriðafoss is situated in the Thjorsa river and this river is the longest one in Iceland ( 230km ). It was pretty close to our accommodation and took about 10 minutes to arrive. In my opinion, it's not the most spectacular waterfall you can find but it has the most water volume out of every waterfall in Iceland. Surrounded by mostly flat lava fields.

It was time to get moving and see the other waterfall.

Ægissíðufoss

Ægissíðufoss is a waterfall about 20 minutes east of the last waterfall, near the town of Hella. It is situated on the Ytri-Rangá River and this river is fully spring-water-fed. We were fortunate that the sunshine decided to show itself and since the water is blue there, the sunshine really brought out the amazing color. This is also a great spot for salmon fishing all year round.

There are some structures in the river, right next to the waterfall. I'm not entirely sure what this is for but I think it has something to do with salmon catching, possibly trapping fish so it can be collected. If you have other ideas then let me know in the comments.

When compared to many other waterfalls in Iceland, these waterfalls are nothing that spectacular but still worth a visit if you have an excess time. No crowds and calm places there both. For you, these might still look spectacular. I'm just super spoiled by seeing so many crazy waterfalls so I compare these to those waterfalls that are truly out of this world.

Thank you for sharing these two waterfalls with me! I've never seen them before, and they're beautiful. I especially like the blue color of the water in Ægissíðufoss.

I'm glad you were able to visit these waterfalls, even if they were a bit underwhelming compared to some of the other waterfalls you've seen in Iceland. It's always nice to find new places to explore, and these waterfalls are definitely worth

Glad you liked them. Underwhelming is a bit of a harsh word 😀 Those were great, just I have seen much more insane-looking ones

Whenever we go to such a scenic place and see such beautiful views, it gives us a lot of happiness and a lot of peace of mind. This place looks like heaven.

I think I could survive both of those waterfalls! 😂

If for some reason you got swept down these waterfalls, I think these are survivable. Unless you don't smash your head on a rock that is 😀.

Such a wonderful waterfalls I never seen before. You are lucky that You have captured this beauty in Your eyes. Very good and mind refreshing views.

Yep, good-looking ones for sure.
