Teach them young, as your father did you. Living off the land is an important life skill! Hopefully you cook or smoke the trout soon for your son to enjoy!

Your post brought back a ton of childhood memories to me. I never fully participated in the scaling and decapitation of all the fish we caught. My parents and brother joked that I was the family fish catcher, while they cleaned, and then all of us ate. Teamwork!

I am glad I unlocked some old memories for you, I did myself! I was thinking about it, it's easily been 20 years or more now that I think about it since we've caught and cleaned some trout. It's so important to have these skills! As my son gets older we are going to do more of this stuff, stepping up to hunting. Small game in a year or two then bigger game as he gets older. Living off the land as much as we can is important! It also helps balance things out - the deer population in some states is off the charts because the lack of hunting.
