When we made our 130 Defender panelvan, we thought we were set. It was going to be more roomy, more spacious, more comfortable than our dear Series 3, nearly 50 years old and amazing, but still - not Uber comfortable.
And then, we had an issue with fuel in the coolant of the Defender, meaning the planned trip to Robe this weekend would have to be in Buttercup, like it or not.
Still, as long as I was making @galenkp jealous, right? Because we were going away for a whole four days bush camping.
Still, it's not easy packing when you have a small space.
And we have had to regress to the old Esky over a 12v fridge as the lithium battery is set up in the van from our NSW trip. It's like going to the dark ages. If there's one thing I hate being without is my 12V fridge.
Can you see the bucket in the back? Yep, that's our makeshift composting toilet, with a bag full of sawdust in it. There's no toilets where we are going and if we can't wonder off with a shovel, this will have to do. We also brought a portable shower tent because I don't think it's necessary to pay $400 for one to hang off the side of your 4WD.
We do, however, have our awning. To put the awning up, we needed to put the heavy, homemade, awkward roofrack on as the rhinoracks seemed too wobbly to support the awning and go sand 4WDing. Putting it on involves blankets and towels not to scratch the roof, and a bit of shouting. But that shade will be invaluable both in sun and rain, provided it's not hella windy. We NEVER leave our awning up at night unless it's guaranteed to be super still.
Still, whilst it is kinda squishy in there, everything is in its place. We have coffee. And enough food to feed an army.
Then, of course, we have to put up with the inevitable WIERD NOISE when you're half an hour from home.
Lucky it was only the water thingie which just needed a few cable ties to hold it in place. Didn't stop the man effing and blinding though. It's not always fun leaving after a hard day's work but it means we will cover some ground tonight, have a sleep, and be glad we are half way there in the morning.
Our Buttercup may be imperfect, but she's all we have for now.
And as long as she takes us on an adventure @galenkp will be green over, that's all we need.
With Love,

Looks like a cracking setup. Not been on a camp for a month now getting withdrawals haha. Been hammering it down the last couple of weeks though. Plus with this house hunting malarkey too 🤯
No luck yet? You were loooking Cornwall way, right?!
Yep. Hard from three hundred miles away. Houses go in days and now agents are saying you can't even look if you don't have an offer on yours. Crazy time here 🤯
No way!!!! That is crazy. It's like that here too. If you say you are subject to sale you get passed over for someone else. And house prices going up everywhere. Still, if we sold ours, I might be able to buy a place in Devon like I wouldn't mind. Thing is I'd rather both... Couldn't live in UK full time.
Would love to leave the Uk for somewhere warmer and less insane, but kinda stuck at the moment. The opportunity will come soon I'm sure. Just insane trying to buy currently, it's blowing my mind!
I cant' believe whats happening over there. was just watching about the bill they want to bring in to give people a record/wear a tag if they've been to a protest, wtf!!! Let alone that Rishi prick getting in, or any tory for that matter.
It's crazy times almost like a nightmare. People are opening their eye but are too scared to acknowledge it. My old man said the other day "I've realised enough I don't want to know anymore". Rishi is a dangerous man and things are going to get a lot worse I prepping like never before right now. This is going to be a rocky road 🙏🏽
Sounds like you need one. We have had a lot of rain here too and more forecast for weekend!😤
It didn't work, not even a bit..

And if you believe that, you're bloody bonkers!
It is true, sometimes my delectable mocha-colour takes on a tinge of green.
Enjoy your trip!
Buttercup looks just fine to me :)

Man, I love these emoticons!
Shit bucket 😂😂😂😂💩💩💩💩
I haven't really tried to have an experience such as yours so I am quite jealous about it. I like how few your things are when you pack since you have little space in your van. Your outdoor experience will be really fun. Tell us more about it in the next following days. !PIZZA
I will next week for sure. Going to schedule some posts as I might be out of reception.
You definitely need a system, but it's cosy enough!

I am dreaming of a campervan ever since because I really love camping with my loved ones. For sure you will enjoy your trip. Take care!
I'm very grateful! It's very common here these days, but ours is a bit different..
Have a grand trip!
Oh it is so needed!!!!
Second picture is the most Australian picture ever! Love it. And thankfully that toilet is filled with sawdust and not.. well.. forget it 🤢
Don't worry, we didn't use it, we shitted in a hole instead, good old shovel and bush dump...
