This is a value for value post: see the explanation in the footer.
I use a terminal called Warp which has in built AI and I paid for a year's use of 2,500 tokens a month (I think this cost me $180 for the year but they've changed prices now). At the last CoreDev meeting @blocktrades was singing the praises of Claude Code, which I haven't tried but does seem similar to Warp. I wanted to give another example of how you can use these tools on the sys-admin side.
Log Analysis
I ran the following prompts on my little $4 VPS machine which serves as a point of presence in front of my backup Hive witness at home (I'll write this up later). I sent these prompts to Claude 4.5 Opus (I can pick various models with differing costs and abilities).
"can you check the logs on this machine especially for out of memory errors"
"can you help me add 5GB of swap and help me document the process to set this up in a bash script"
I ran these because I'm just about to start paying for a machine I was testing from a local VPS provider with a data centre very close (or even co-located with) my ISP here in Israel.
I had logged on to the provider's dashboard and seen a notification that this $4 machine ran out of memory and I wanted to know why. It quickly found the out of memory error and suggested setting up a memory disk for swap, excellent, it also wrote me a shell script to make setting up this swap a breeze in the future.
But then I thought, I really need to know why this happened (and btw my SSHD is not running on port 22, so this was only found after a complete port scan of my machine).
"can you also scan the logs for any other significant issues on this machine in the last 5 days"
And sure enough after a bunch of "thinking" and running commands (some of which it asks permission for and some are purely diagnostic) it gave me a report.

It was an oversight on my part not to have already done what it recommended: set up fail2ban on this machine.
Two carriage returns on its suggestion and my machine is now much better protected.
The cost of this help? 41.9 of my 2,500 credits this month (monthly cost is $15 per month on the plan I've got for the next few months).

Value for Value
For the last few months while building @v4vapp I was generously supported by the DHF. Going forward I have a much more modest support which covers direct server costs and a little of my time.
If you appreciate the work I do on and around Hive, you can express this directly: upvoting posts on Hive is great. Also consider a direct donation (there's a Tip button on Hive or a Lightning Address) on all my posts.

You are becoming a real AI Pro, Brian! Always interesting to read though I am not that deep into the Technical details.
I tested Warp but didn't go much further. Now I'm sticking to Gemini cli...
