HIVE COMMUNITIES

HIVE COMMUNITIES_00.jpg

I created this tool out of a need to save time when selecting communities to curate. As I’ve already explained in this post, I don’t trust algorithms—I go straight to the communities.

The various front-ends have made interesting efforts to improve functional design. But when it comes to communities, they don’t satisfy me. Their links lead to a vast number of communities, many of which are inactive. The ones with the most interactions (subscribers, active users, posts, comments, and pending rewards) appear at the top. This (unconsciously) influences the choice of communities. [Peakd, Ecency, Hive Suite]

Recently, @dalz published a report on communities. The report states that 4,700 communities were created on HIVE between November 2019 and October 2026.

However, Artificial Intelligence (via Abacus.ia) currently recognizes only 995 active communities (at this time, the count is dynamic, based on real-time data). Communities are considered active if they have had posts in the last year.

Yes, a community that hasn’t had any posts for over a year is on the verge of dying out from neglect, and there can be various reasons for this. Obviously, if there’s no activity, users and curation groups won’t seek them out.

Talking about quantity is different from talking about productivity. Therefore, communities that have not had any posts for over a year (from October 2025 to the present), or that have fewer than five subscribers, have been excluded from this page. However, if they start posting again, they will be automatically included.

Organized by Categories

HIVE COMMUNITIES_2.jpg
After doing some research, I couldn’t find any page on HIVE that groups communities by categories to make searching and browsing easier. (There might be one, but I didn’t find it.)

These 23 categories are listed in alphabetical order and show the number of active communities in each one.

Within each category, the communities are listed in alphabetical order. Each one shows the number of subscribers.

HIVE COMMUNITIES_4.jpg
Each community includes a brief introduction, its creation date, the rules (if applicable), and links available on @peakd and @ecency. (I tried the others, but they gave me an error.)

🛠 Development Process

I’m neither a developer nor a web designer. I used AI with Abacus to create this tool.

Abacus suggested dividing the communities into categories. At first, I disagreed with some of them and decided to manually verify them one by one. Over the past two days, my brain has scanned more than 1,000 communities 🙃.

❌ Errors and Bugs

There’s one thing AI and my own intelligence have in common: both are fallible.

Yesterday it was in testing all day and performed well. Today I’ve already noticed that, every hour, it scans all existing communities (4.7K), adds and removes communities, and only then corrects them according to the specified parameters. So, it’s normal for the number of active communities to vary when you refresh the page.

I asked them to fix the error, run the general scan once a day (instead of every hour), and check the parameters first before adding or removing communities. Then, the AI reached out and asked for another $10 in credits. There are no free lunches in AI, either.

Even so, with the $20 subscription, plus the $20 they requested to keep things running, plus the $10 now to fix errors and fine-tune everything once and for all, it’s cheaper than hiring a developer. Plus, there’s the advantage of not being subject to developers’ schedules and whims. The AI gives us that freedom.

So, they’ll only receive the $10 once I detected all the errors for completed everything in one go. I’m counting on your cooperation. If you notice that a community is missing, or that a community is in the wrong category, or any other error, feel free to let me know in the comments. Thank you for your cooperation.

I didn't create this tool just for myself. You should use it, too, and share it with new users. 🔗 Secure link: https://hive-communities-ybhcto.abacusai.app

Your decision to filter out inactive communities is a smart move since it really cleans up the browsing experience. Scanning over a thousand communities manually sounds like a massive undertaking, but it sounds like it paid off for organization.

I wanted to make sure that the active communities were in the right categories. The AI was messing me up with every change request. It already knew that I, unconsciously, wanted to check everything manually 😏

The time lost now will be recovered in the future.

Thank you very much for your comment.

You have created a very nice and functional tool for HIVE! Thanks for doing that! To be honest, I also think that communities aren't represented well on our main frontends... In my opinion, they are one of the pillars of the social side of HIVE, and they have enormous potential that isn't used enough... Hopefully, your tool will help with visibility!

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project! Check out our Reading Suggestions Posts!

I'm proud of your comment.
As I said before, communities are the heart of the ecosystem. There's a lot that's invisible and deserves to be highlighted.

I hope this tool helps bring the visibility that communities deserve.

I've set it aside to explore when I have more free time, but at first glance, it looks like it could be very useful. !PIZZA

Feel free.
But yes, it can be useful for automating the search for publications to curate😉

Good stuff, I like what you are sharing.

I took a look at my community called The PEPT Game
I noticed you placed it in a gaming category but education would be a better fit.

Have a look at what I created so far using Claude AI

I did something similar to you in querying the community meta data.

I added a surfing feature which has boosted my daily productivity on Hive.

I admit that, at first, I wasn't sure which of the two categories to choose.

All right, I'll change it. I'll wait a few more days to see if there are any errors, omissions, or other suggestions. Then I'll change everything all at once.

Thank you very much for your comment.

Awesome, Thank you kindly.

I just released the latest version of PEPT.ca where you can easily surf through blogs and upvote via keychain without leaving the site.

If you have any suggestions or ideas that can help you find quality blogs, let me know. I am continuously improving and it would be a pleasure to collaborate on anything that makes life easier for a Hiver.

Thank you. I will look into it carefully when I have a little more time available.
Yes, I have some suggestions for finding quality blogs and users. I will let you know soon.

That looks cool. Communities have so much potential. Even if they are small they can bring people with a common interest together.

That's true. Communities are the heart of the ecosystem.

Thank you very much for your comment.

Would be cool to have the AI research if these communities have actual front ends and add those links instead of just Peakd and Ecency. Blocktunes for one has it's own music streaming platform with studio tools, etc, it's WAY more than just a standard Hive community. Just a suggestion.

Thank you very much for the suggestion and your cooperation.

Initially, the instruction was to include all front-ends. However, the others (HiveBlog, HiveSuite, Scrobble.life) do not allow it, which is why we chose the two most commonly used front-ends.

In the next update, I include Blocktunes in the appropriate community. I'll wait a few more days to see if there are any errors, omissions, or other suggestions. Then I'll change everything all at once.

Oh I get it. It's a struggle around here, lol. If it's going to cause problems, don't even worry about it.

As far as I’m concerned, there’s no struggle, friend.

I initially programmed the tool so that, in addition to Peakd and Ecency, it would be possible to open Hive.Blog, Hive Suite, and Scobble.life. It turns out, however, that the front-ends themselves refuse the connection.

If Block Tunes allows the connection, it will be included in your community. No struggle :)

I’ll wait a little longer in case there are other suggestions or bugs, so I can make all the changes at once.

In addition to yours, I’ll try to add @slothbuzz [www.slothbuzz.com] as well. Do you know of any others, besides the ones I’ve already mentioned, that could be included?

Thank you for your cooperation.

At this point I do not. I have been pretty laser focused on Blocktunes for a while now.
