Hive Keychain DHF - Week 1 : Ledger, Doc and App

in HiveDevs4 years ago

As promised in our proposal, we will post weekly updates to let you know what's going on regarding Keychain development.
The DHF start on May 15th and we only managed to be funded for 2 days before dropping under the Return proposal.

If you wish to see the development going full speed, support us via the links to the proposal at the bottom this post.

Documentation

Up until now, the Hive Keychain extension documentation suffered from the rapid development pace. It was incomplete and rather hard to understand for new developers wishing to build dApps on Hive with Keychain integration.

I took a pause in the development of new features to automate the documentation use documentation.js. Now the documentation is automatically generated, making sure it will always stay up to date.

Check it out here.

Mobile App

After discussing UI/UX matters with the team, I've started scaffolding the mobile App. It will be a React Native (vanilla) App, which sate will be handled via Redux.

Once done, I will start working on the onboarding and user management screens. Users will be able to import their keys from the extension directly from a QR code.

@nateaguila is working on the UI/UX, you can bet we will have a great looking App.

As for everything we do, the App will be opensource. The first commits will be available here in the coming week, assuming that we get the funds to keep working on it.

Ledger

Our number one priority is to keep your keys safe. For this, we will make it possible to sign operations requiring the active authority from Ledger.

@quochuy is putting a lot of work on a Ledger library for Hive, and will also work on the Keychain-Ledger integration. We will fund the latter and hope that you will enjoy this new feature.

Keychain is one awesome project.
Waiting for the app :)

Can't wait to see the mobile version of Keychain available.

Great work, I really am in need of a good keychain app for mobile, HiveWallet does not work on everything and I don't have a computer, will vote on this proposal as soon as this comment is made.

Interesting... I would like to see the progress! Waiting for that...

Keychain is awesome and makes life on the blockchain so much easier! 🙌 Life before Keychain was so much more cumbersome, and this is one of the most useful browser extensions ever! I was very happy to support your proposal!

My only frustration with it: Every version of Keychain thus far has never opened fully to show the buttons at the bottom, and the window must be manually re-sized in order to click. Even the very latest version from the Chrome Extensions store has this problem... 😕

The overall functionality of Keychain is so good, however, that this little frustration isn't a 'deal-breaker,' but I do hope that one day this issue can be addressed and fixed! 🤞

This is odd, Ill take a look, do you use your browser zoomed in at more than 100%?

Sometimes, yes. HOWEVER, I am at 100% right now, tried it, and same results. The buttons are off the bottom of the screen.

If it helps any, I am running the latest version of HiveKeychain from the Chrome webstore on the latest version of the Opera browser on the latest version of Windows-10 Home edition/64-bit.

Thank you for the response! 💜

It's all coming together. Well done!

Very good progress. Just a point of pure curiosity, could this initiative be laying the basic groundwork for future payment solutions, i.e., Hivepay? That would be a very interesting prospect.
