Engaging with Open Source on Hive: A Call to Action

in HiveDevs9 months ago

Hello, Hive Community! We're starting a new proposal soon and we're gonna push for more Open Source interaction this next year so this is an important educational post about Open Source and how our project operaties.

Our mission is to create and maintain OPEN SOURCE tools for our vibrant Hive ecosystem, funded by HIVE stakers through the Hive Development pool.

These projects range from a modern Hive blockchain explorer and an internal HIVE-HBD marketplace interface, to a customizable notification system and new Hive wallet, among other features. All of them are designed with the Hive community at heart and aim to bring new possibilities to life for everyone involved.

The Open Source Journey So Far

Unfortunately, open source projects in the blockchain landscape often fall into obscurity due to reasons like lack of maintenance, community interest, or the initial spark that started them. They sometimes need committed champions to keep them going.

Our goal with Peak Open Projects is to shift this pattern. We aim to not only sustain these projects, but also encourage active community participation. We're in this for the long run, and we believe that together, we can build something that Hive can be truly proud of.

Here's How You Can Get Involved:

Offer Suggestions and Report Bugs

We open up our project repositories on PEAK OPEN GITLAB once they become operational. This allows everyone to view the project's code, track our progress, and interact with us. You can suggest new features, report bugs, or share your thoughts on improving the user experience. Remember, you don't need to be a developer to contribute. Every bit of feedback helps!

Contribute Your Skills

If you're a developer, you can assist in improving the code, adding features, or even expanding a project's functionality to suit your needs. Perhaps you can offer a fresh perspective or innovative ideas that can benefit the project beyond just code. We heartily welcome developers to join us and help bring new features to life.

Get Paid for Your Contributions

Contributions to our open-source projects are eligible for funding from the Hive Development pool. If you help progress a project, we can reward your efforts. Our part-time developers started just like you, and their shared goal is to create fantastic blockchain products for Hive. It can help to let us know the kind of time you put in to help give us a basis for our donation to the cause.

Earn Long-Term

If a project captures your interest, and you find yourself consistently contributing, we can arrange for a recurring transfer of HBD as payment for your dedicated work. If you have an open-source project idea that Hive Community might be interested in, let's talk. Maybe, together with our Open Source team, we can bring your project to life.

Whether you're a developer looking to contribute to the exciting world of blockchain technology, or a non-tech savvy individual willing to provide valuable feedback, we want you to know that your involvement matters. By interacting with our projects, you're helping shape the future of the Hive blockchain.

While some open-source projects may feel exclusive or intimidating, we strive to maintain an inclusive and welcoming environment. Our project channels on GitLab and Discord are open to everyone. We believe in the power of diverse perspectives to drive innovation. So don’t hesitate to join the conversation, suggest a feature, or report a bug.

Every contribution to the Peak Open Projects, no matter how small, has an impact. Bug reports help us improve the user experience. Feature suggestions can inspire new avenues for our projects. Contributions to code base bring new functionalities to life. Your participation strengthens the Hive community and enhances the blockchain ecosystem as a whole.

Whether you're a veteran programmer or a newbie, there are opportunities for you to grow with us. As you contribute to our projects, you're also developing your own skills and knowledge. You'll get to work with seasoned developers, collaborate on exciting projects, and maybe even earn some HBD along the way!

We believe that every user has something valuable to bring to our projects, even if you don't know how to code. Your experience as a user can provide crucial insights for our development team. Share your ideas, report bugs, or simply give your feedback on the user interface or experience. Your perspective can help make our tools even better.

While it’s exciting to earn HBD for contributing, remember that the ultimate goal is to enhance the Hive community. By contributing to our projects, you're also paying it forward to the entire Hive community. Your work could inspire another developer, help a user, or even pave the way for a new project.

As always, we're looking forward to seeing how you contribute and help the Hive community grow and thrive! Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or suggestions. Together, we can make Hive even more awesome.

Whether you're a project looking to use one of our tools or a developer willing to take on a part-time open-source project, we're open to collaboration.

As a top block producer on Hive (known as a "witness"), your vote for us on the main witness page (our "witness" account is @steempeak) is highly appreciated.

We have a proposal to develop open-source tools for the entire Hive community. You can support it through one of the following links:

We're always open to feedback and suggestions. Feel free to leave comments on our GitLab, Discord, or any of our social channels. Your voice matters, and we'd love to hear your thoughts on our tools and projects.

If you're a company or individual interested in blockchain technology and open-source projects, consider sponsoring a Peak Open Project. Your sponsorship could help us create even more innovative tools for the Hive community.

We're committed to continually improving the Hive experience, and your support is a key part of that. Thank you for your interest in our projects, and for being a part of the Hive community.

Thank you for being a part of this journey, and we look forward to growing the Hive ecosystem together.
