Yeah, you made it! I'm so proud and so happy! Even if my health isn't good, everything else is awesome and today, I want to share this new with you. My 3D printed models were downloaded 1000 times!!!
A small history
At the beginning, this is just a small idea: made some tools to help me in my daily life. With my disease, some tasks are quite hard:
- Open a soda can
- Take my medication
- Turn my key to open the door
- Etc...
This small idea is quite big right now. Many users, all around the world use my tools. And after months, I have 6 tools and... 1000 downloads !
A small gift from me to you
To celebrate this milestone, I updated my models to make them awesome:
- My Soda Opener is now smaller and more resistant.
- The Rocket Tool is really easier to print with a better grip
- Better rounding and less broken drugs with the updated Pill Puncher
- You can safely open a ring pull can with the new version of my can opener
- One more texture for my new best friend, the silent textured fidget toy
A new small model too
Yes, A few weeks ago, I've restarted to read. Even if I have a e-reader, some books aren't available in digital format. Nothing is better than a real book, but for some people like me, it's heavy and hard to keep open.
That's why I made a new tool: a Book Holder. Unlike other book holders, my model is more ergonomic with a rounded hole for the thumb. It's really smooth and better for the grip.
Also, this model is parametric. If you use OpenSCAD (a wonderful open-source software to code an 3D object), you can modify many parameters:
- Width
- Height
- Thickness
- Hole diameter
- Display a text
This time, I released this model under the GNU-GPL v3 open-source license. You are allowed to remix this tool, sell it, ... The only one thing is to keep the Attribution. You must add my name and a link to the page of the model.
Conclusion
You know, I never thought I'd have so much visibility and downloads. I have a need, I made something, and VOILA, 1000 downloads. I'm so proud. So I want to say THANK YOU to all of you for your support. Never forget, You are AWESOME!!!
It's really cool that you have designed your own tools for your situation.
The fact that people are downloading them means there is a use for them as well.
That's really cool that you were able to print your own tools to help you with some difficulties. Apparently more people are struggling with these things so well done on the downloads!
I currently have Carpal Tunnel syndrome and looking at the book holder makes my thumb hurt already, lol. But that's because these temporary symptoms are making pressure with one finger really hard, it will go numb quickly. I can see how it would be helpful normally though!
Keep up the good work of designing them, maybe patent them?
Some book holder are on a stand to avoid keep the book with your hands. Do you already try something like this ?
Also, all my models are Open-Source (GPLv3 or CreativeCommons BY-NC). I give my work for community. I don't think about patent them...
If you have any ideas about a tool that can help people with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, just let me know :)
