Inaugurating my participation in this themed day, I come to report what I did over the weekend, at least for a few hours. I needed to start a job that I have been putting off for many days.
I have a small back patio where I have planted grass, as well as some other ornamental plants. My land is small so there is no space for fancy things. The lawn is usually maintained by me.
However, we have a very difficult external situation in Brazil, which is intense rain. I myself have already posted here about the critical situation in my own city, and also later when I needed to avoid flooding on the highway during my return from holiday.
It turns out that since September we have had rain almost daily, which prevents me from working in the garden. Everything was very humid and with the weather cloudy, it wasn't exactly an encouraging scenario for weed growth (you could call it "weeds").
It turns out that two or three days of scorching sun were enough for islands of different plants to appear and begin to suffocate my lawn, with astonishing growth!
So I've been dedicating the few hours a day I have during the little time I'm at home to manually cleaning the garden for three days.
There are pesticides (agricultural pesticides) that promise to only eliminate weeds, keeping the lawn alive. However, this is part of the mythology, because in practice I did not see this happen. So manual labor has been the only effective way to keep my lawn clean.
With around 4 hours of work dedicated to manually selecting what lives and what is pulled from the earth, I managed to clean an area of just a few square meters.
And while I was cleaning, I wondered if there wasn't a moment when I didn't notice the invasion of unwanted plants. Have I, a believer in the disappointment of rain, stopped being vigilant? How did we get to this point?
I couldn't formulate many hypotheses.
First, with almost three months of practically daily rain, I think I've gotten used to not going to the garden. I looked out the door, out the window, but I wasn't close enough.

Afterwards, I trusted that the rain would inhibit the growth of both grass and weeds. That felt right, for a while. But it only took a few days of sunshine for me to realize that the seeds I couldn't see from the window were there, ready and waiting for their opportunity.

I intend to finish the first part of my work, which is clearing the grass of weeds, and then carrying out the final mowing and cleaning. The amount of time I will need to invest in this task will be infinitely more than usual.
All this because I stopped being vigilant and careful about what I should do.

Inaugurando minha participação neste dia temático, venho relatar o que fiz no final de semana, ao menos por algumas horas. Precisei iniciar um trabalho que venho adiando tem muitos dias.
Tenho um pequeno pátio dos fundos onde plantei grama, além de algumas outras plantas ornamentais. Meu terreno é pequeno então não tem espaço para coisas mirabolantes. O gramado costuma ter sua manutenção feita por mim.
Porém estamos com uma situação externa muito difícil no Brasil, que é a chuva intensa. Eu mesmo já postei por aqui a situação crítica na minha própria cidade, e também posteriormente quando precisei desviar dos alagamentos da via rodoviária durante meu retorno do feriado.
Acontece que desde setembro temos tido chuva quase que diariamente, o que me impede de trabalhar no jardim. Tudo estava muito húmido e com o tempo nublado, não era exatamente um cenário de incentivo para o crescimento de ervas daninhas (você pode chamar de "mato").
Acontece que bastou dois ou três dias de sol escaldante para que surgissem ilhas de plantas diversas que começaram sufocar o meu gramado, com um crescimento espantoso!
Então estou a três dias dedicando algumas horas por dia que tenho durante o pouco tempo que estou em casa para a limpeza manual do jardim.
Existem agrotóxicos (defensivos agrícolas) que promete eliminar apenas as ervas daninhas, mantendo o gramado vivo. Porém isso faz parte da mitologia, pois na prática não vi isso acontecer. Então o trabalho manual tem sido a única forma eficaz de manter o meu gramado limpo.
Com cerca de 4 horas de trabalho dedicado à seleção manual do que vive e do que é arrancado da terra, consegui limpar uma área de poucos metros quadrados.
E enquanto eu estava limpando eu fique refletindo se não houve um momento em que eu não tenha percebido a invasão das plantas indesejadas. Será que eu, crente na desilusão da chuva, deixei de estar vigilante? Como chegamos a esse ponto?
Não consegui formular muitas hipóteses.
Primeiro, com quase três meses de chuvas praticamente diárias, acho que me acostumei a não ir até o jardim. Fiquei olhando pela porta, pela janela, mas não estive perto o suficiente.

Depois, eu confiei que a chuva iria inibir o crescimento tanto da grama quando do mato. Isso pareceu certo, por um tempo. Mas bastou poucos dias de sol para eu percerber que as sementes que eu não via da janela estavam lá, prontas e esperando a oportunidade.

Eu pretendo terminar a primeira parte do meu trabalho, que é limpar o mato da grama, para depois realizar o corte e a limpeza final. A quantidade de tempo que precisarei investir nesta tarefa será infinitamente maior do que o de costume.
Tudo isso porque deixei de estar vigilante e cuidado daquilo que eu deveria fazer.

É realmente uma ótima reflexão mano, as vezes ficamos olhando as coisas apenas pela janela e não chegamos perto para conferir como realmente estão, então um dia isso estoura e nos perguntamos como deixamos acontecer? Aí vem aquela ficha que cai: "eu fiquei olhando so de longe".
