I regularly make Taco Tuesdays posts on Tuesday, the foodie theme post for Free Compliments. I believe not me, but everyone out there usually have a bad foodie times, when you want to take some shots but somehow you can't make them or maybe you lose your interest about taking their picture.
Usually the problem that occurs is having a bad table mate. For example my father, he hates people who taking picture on the food, so sometime he gets mad or intentionally spoil the dish so they get messed and look bad. I bet all of us have that kind of friend too, or maybe it's you who are like that...
Well nothing wrong with that, everyone has their own preferences. In this post I want to share something why I lose my mood to write this post before.
THE HONEY GRILLED CHICKEN
Initially this was the material I prepared for my Taco Tuesdays post a few weeks ago. I kept seeing @braaiboy making some post about BRAAAAIII, so I thought... ok, let me take some fire pic while getting some materials too for my Taco Tuesdays posts.
The place I came for getting the grilled food was very famous 15 years ago. The owner was very poor, he lost everything and he sold everything he had to get some cart, then he was selling this honey grilled chicken.
His grilled chicken was a massive hit, and within a few months, he opened nine outlets and all were packed with customers. He won many entrepreneurship awards, one of them due to opening international branches. I used to buy the chickens frequently.
But as you can read above, I write them all in past tense... It was a past glory. The owner changed his job, right after he got rich, he became motivator and preacher... So the business started to deteriorate from that point.
There you go, the picture that I take for @braaiboy giveaway. People here kind of "over smart" so they always put a fan near the grill. However I got a bad feeling when I saw their grill, they put a fan and a blower, so it's a double fans there.
What the hell was that? As if they needed to get the chicken welldone in a minute... so they get as many air into the grill.
Ok finally within less than 5 minutes my chicken was served on my table. The smell was good, the presentation was so so... Well what could I expect from a simple Honey Grill Chicken? It's not something that supposed to be eye catching
At this point I could make this as Taco Tuesdays post, and everything would go smooth... Another week with another Taco Tuesdays post... But I do not want to be like this.
This chicken was so wrong... really wrong
I ripped the chicken and I found out that I was right... It was cold inside. The outer side was warm, having a Smokey aroma from the charcoal grilling and nice smell of a mix seasoning of Honey and Barbeque sauce. But inside, all cold
This was not a rare chicken breast. I think they marinated and braised this chicken first until it was well cooked. Then they only use the grill to warm the chicken.
Well I could like in the first place, making a post about this honey grill chicken as if it was so good and I bet people would believe that too... But I just felt that's wrong, I should say it was what it was.
I felt like they conned me, a scam... I believe people who love grilled food know exactly what I mean, when you get something grilled, but it taste different when you eat them because they are cooked by braising or steaming... You know well it should not be call as grilled food.
The price was not cheap, it was not an expensive one but for a food stall on a shophouse, it's quite high.
Overall I dared to say the chicken was bad. I could not take that braised chicken as a grilled chicken because of having a grilled skin. However I would be honest here, their chili paste was excellent. It's a sad thing to see they have a great chili paste, a good seasoning mix, but they cook half ass like that.
Ok that's for today post. Sorry if I rant too much here, too much disappointment in there. Anyway do you want to share any similar experience like this? I believe everyone must have this kind of culinary disaster. Feel free to leave any comment below
