TODAY'S TOPIC:
LIVING A LIFE OF CHASTITY
BIBLE TEXTS:
1 Corinthians 6:18-20
KEY VERSE:
Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18).
CONTROLLING THOUGHT:
Discipline is the key to chastity in life and ministry.
THE MESSAGE:
The word chastity is "the quality of being morally pure." Usually, we think of chastity as abstaining from immoral sexual activities. Cyprian a third century church leader described chastity "as the dignity of the body, the omament of morality, the sacredness of the sexes, the bond of modesty, the source of purity, the peacefulness of home, the crown of concord" According to David A. Bedna, "Obedience to the law of chastity will increase our happiness in mortality and make possible our progress in eternity."
When Paul used familial terms to describe women in the church, (1 Timothy 5:2), he set the rules for chaste conduct between the sexes. The message is clear: "Treat every woman the way you want someone to treat your mother or your sister."
Ministers and leaders must be examples of chastity in every sector of life (1 Timothy 3:1-13). This incorporates not being addicted to alcohol, living loyal to one's wife, remaining free from the love of money, and upholding a virtuous reputation in all ways.
Caution: establish boundaries to help you withstand the pressure of sin. For young unmarried male and female, please do not stay in a lonely place all alone and for a very long time. Find out the areas in your life where you are struggling with especially sexual temptations and take a strong stand against it. May God's grace keep us free from the pollution of sin.
