When Thick HP Breaks the Plan

in FreeCompliments9 days ago

Greetings, Splinterlands warriors.
At the close of this year, I took a glance at the HIVE price, which climbed to around 0.1023 USD per HIVE. It’s probably not a number that makes people immediately put up celebratory banners, but it’s enough to make many players hopeful again: “Who knows, maybe the year will end with a slight smile.” Let’s hope so. Crypto does love to give hope—then test it.

And amid this reflective year-end mood, Brawl returns. Like a family gathering: exhausting, a bit noisy, but once it’s over, you somehow miss it.

In this week’s Brawl—fair to call it a year-end edition—the results were almost the same as last month. Not a drop, but not a big jump either.

I was once again placed in Fray 12, my regular spot that already feels like a rented house. In this fray, there aren’t many other guilds participating, so only 6 matches actually took place.

From those 6 matches:

  • 3 matches I couldn’t win
  • But overall, 5 victories were secured in this fray

Not a perfect record, but an honest reflection of how tough Brawl can be: sometimes you win, sometimes you learn—usually the hard way.

Overall, the team’s performance was very solid.
CLANFT secured 90 wins and collected 270 points, outperforming other guilds and emerging as champions.

Final rewards:

  • 🏆 45 Crowns
  • 🎖️ 2,250 Merits for each fully participating member
  • 💎 25,724 staked SPS for players with a Spellbook

Not explosive numbers, but enough to say: “Yes, teamwork worked this time.”

Out of my three losses, there was one battle that really deserved reflection.

In that match, I misread the situation. I didn’t anticipate a melee monster having such thick HP. With the Back to Basics and Noxious Fumes rulesets, I felt confident deploying a strong magic-based team.

I chose Thaddius Brood, hoping to:

  • Reduce the opponent’s magic damage
  • Drain enemy HP faster

The problem was, poison does eat away HP each round, but it wasn’t fast enough to bring down a certain figure named Grum Flameblade level 3. Grum’s massive HP threw all my calculations off. The poison worked—but Grum worked harder.

Instead of watching the opponent fall, I watched my own monsters drop one by one—neatly, like a queue.

The loss wasn’t due to a misclick, but to misreading fundamental strength.

Fortunately, not every story ended on a sour note. There were several matches I won because the strategy worked as planned. There was also one win because the opponent fled—not a heroic victory, but still valid and officially recorded.

In Brawl, we learn one important thing:
not every victory has to be beautiful—what matters is that it counts and helps the team.

Closing: End of the Year, Beginning to Learn Again

This year-end Brawl wasn’t perfect, but it was honest. There were wins, losses, and a Grum Flameblade that taught me that thick HP should never be underestimated, even in a poisoned arena.

Don’t be overconfident in a single type of attack. In Splinterlands, what most often brings us down isn’t the opponent—but our own assumptions.

See you in the next Brawl.
May HIVE continue to improve, SPS remain loyal, and next year our strategies be more mature than this one.
