From Playgrounds to Screens: How Friendship Has Changed in the Digital Era

So, today's topic is The Changing Meaning of Friendship in the Digital Age. In today's digital world, friendship, playing together, all of this has disappeared. The excitement we used to have—making plans in school, going home from school, eating, and then meeting at the playground. We would plan for the last period, thinking, "Today we will play like this," and then go home, eat, quickly change, and leave. All this excitement, this excitement in the digital age, has disappeared because nowadays people are so engrossed in online friendship, online chatting, video calls, and so on. They would meet their best friend once a week and talk about all that. What excitement would they express? All of this has disappeared, so today I'm going to discuss this topic.

Nowadays, friendship openly begins from online platforms. Like games, communication. It is not only from school. It also happens from workplace and neighbors. But now friendship is increasing more through online games, online community and all these things. You must have heard the name of pubs the most. Online friends meet in pubs. There are many such platforms where online friends meet and talk. Friendship continues from there, so all these things have also increased a lot. In today's digital age, in today's detail area, that old thing, that friendship, that comfort, all these things have been lost.

We can share our feelings with online friends through digital internet. But that true friendship doesn't exist between them. Even today, I don't share everything with my best friend through video calls. I meet her unless it's extremely important. If it's for a week or a month, I share everything with her. And then there's that excitement—telling it all. Speaking it all. There's a lot of excitement involved in all this. It's fun, it comes. That feeling—yes, my friend is right there in front of me, and I can say anything to her. All of this has been lost through the digital age. You can interact with them. You can bond with them face-to-face. You can do all that. But I feel a certain way. I don't get that feeling of a real life meeting through online interaction. You can find that simple emotional support through digital. But if you don't get that simple emotional support openly then all these things happen and at the same time online digital friendship can also create misunderstanding. Physical black to black physical but you are not able to understand the body tone or body language that what the other person is saying or saying in words. Due to this, your friendship gets spoiled because you are not able to understand the body language of the other person, you are not able to meet physically and because of this many friendships get spoiled, so all these things also cause a lot of harm.

But digital friendship is very useful for introvert people who remain isolated. There is a lot for them in real life. They can provide online friendship. Comfort and those who belong to a lot, remain isolated. They do not have any friends with people in real life. They find friends through social media and in the digital era, it is a very good thing for them that you can tell someone about your friends. Even if it is online or digital, but you can tell them, you can video call them, you can call them. You can share your feelings with them, you can share everything with them. This digital era has brought us friendship apps, video calls, and it's all about friendship. It's about replacing a handwritten letter. In class, we used to sit quietly and talk to each other behind our notebooks. It felt like we were explaining something, writing, or explaining something, but we used to talk about it all on our long phone calls.

Didi has found everything. We are too busy with our social lives. Social friends, meaning online friends, have become so busy that many people have lost their real-life friends. For virtual friends alone, this whole thing is online friendship. It's coming online. It's taking over digital. It's good for isolated people. They too find friends. But our true friendship, our conversations of sharing things together, drinking tea together, hanging out, all of this, doesn't happen, which creates misunderstandings. Even when all this happens, there's a lot of friendship loss. It's a loss of connection. Those geographical barriers come in the way. We can't connect. Because of distance, friendship doesn't allow people to be friends, but digital friendship doesn't allow that. To connect, because the distance is too great, all this becomes a huge problem. But online interaction allows us to communicate instantly. We can talk face-to-face with friends who need to understand that we didn't mean it that way. For that, there are video calls. The digital era, the digital future, is as good for friendship as it is for its lovers
