If you know or have played any arena FPS before (the most known examples being Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament), then you know how it can be quite a fun thrill to jump in against other players and blast away with machine guns, shotguns and rocket launchers as you move like a bullet to avoid fire. These kind of games are absolute classics for PC players in the 90s, but population might have got a bit scarce nowadays for this genre. And also, if you happen to be under little to no budget for games, you could be out of access from these games and their insane speed gun action goodness...
Except that with the advent of modern internet allowing to both spread knowledge about game development and sharing open source/free games which can be both original concepts and alternatives to popular games, there would be one particular game that would not only serve this purpose for Arena FPS games for years, but also quite lightweight and quick to download (and understand) which means for bigger accesibility. This is Xonotic.
Quoting again from the starting paragraph, if you are already familiar with Q3/UT (which might have piqued your interest from reading the title), then its simple to know that what awaits you here is facing off against others with explosive weapons, often for the highest frag count (alone or in teams), as well as other modes like Capture the Flag. While some of the weapons are a bit different from the other games (the Machine Gun here needs to reload after a while, and there's a sort of unique shotgun-like plasma weapon that can shoot either spread out plasma pellets or a single concentrated plasma shot), most of them are what you would expect from a game like this: shotguns, machineguns, grenade and rocket launchers, and the obligatory rail-gun (which for those of you modern FPS players, is basically your sniper rifle).

If you want to hop in a server online, the game will auto-download any addon needed from the server so the only thing you need to worry about is to hunt down players at a server (or invite your buddies) for online multiplayer. And if you didn't have any luck with that or want to play offline/with certain rules, you can also host your own game with bots (and there's also a sort of Campaign mode bundled with the game, though don't expect anything like Halo or Doom campaigns lol).
At this point I can't really explain any further this game with words other than that it is a quite fun fragfest that's avaliable completely for free (so you don't have an excuse to skip this one 😉) and is an absolute blast with friends, so I'm ending this by leaving a video below where I spent 10 minutes on a Deathmatch server which you can check to see how the game flows. Si quieres entrar en un servidor online, el juego descargará automáticamente cualquier complemento que necesites del servidor, así que de lo único que tienes que preocuparte es de buscar jugadores en un servidor (o invitar a tus amigos) para el multijugador online. Y si no tienes suerte con eso o quieres jugar fuera de línea/con ciertas reglas, también puedes organizar tu propia partida con bots (y también hay una especie de modo de campaña incluido en el juego, aunque no esperes nada parecido a las campañas de Halo o Doom lol).
Llegados a este punto no puedo explicar más este juego con palabras más allá de que es un fragfest bastante divertido que está disponible de forma completamente gratuita (así que no tienes excusa para saltártelo 😉 ) y que es una auténtica pasada con los amigos, así que termino esto dejando un vídeo a continuación en el que he pasado 10 minutos en un servidor Deathmatch que puedes consultar para ver cómo fluye el juego.
