February 25, 198. SOG operative Alex Mason is trapped in a chair in an interrogation room. The unseen prisoner is asking him burning questions about the location of a number station. Then Mason gives them some information ... . . ...
- Mason, Woods and Bowman take part in Operation 40 to assassinate Fidel Castro. At that time Bay of Pigs was running in Cuba. Mason completes the mission and stays on a plane to protect the plane from the blockade. Mason was then captured by the real Castro. Mason was then handed over to General Nikita Dragovich to be held in the Varkuta Gulag prison. There Mason meets his friend Victor Reznov, a former Red Army soldier. Reznov then gives Mason an idea of his enemies: Nikita Dragovich, his "right-hand man" Liv Kravchenko, and former Nazi scientist Friedrich Steiner, who defeated the Soviet Union.
October 1945. Reznov and Dmitry were then sent to rescue Friedrich from a Nazi base in the Arctic. There, Dragovich betrays them. Frederick's discovery of a nerve agent known as "Nova-7" inflicts on Dimitri and other members of the ship. Reznov did the same thing to the British commander and used Nova-7 for his own work, attacked the Soviets, destroyed Nova-7 and fled. Later, however, the Soviets rebuilt the Nova-8 with the help of a British scientist and strainer.
Mason and Reznov Reznov is captured while fleeing Gulag, but Mason is able to escape. A month later, President John F. Kennedy gave Mason a mission to assassinate Dravovich.
