It is amazing to see how today the many independent video game developers can make themselves known thanks to the internet. This gives us a great opportunity to play amazing game made by them. Curiously, many of these videogames made by themselves have more soul and affection than the super production of a triple A video game. This is the case of Sayonara Wild Hearts, a video game that overflows charisma from each of its aspects, as much as sound, visual, gameplay and artistic style, which it´s a joy to play, one can´t help but delight in the wonderful work done in this indie game.
Sayonara Wild Hearts was released last year, created by Simogo and distributed by Annapurna Interactive. It is one of those games in which the story is highly interpretive, since Sayonara Wild Heart communicates its plot through the levels that tells us small subtle messages or with our interaction with the world, so I will restrict myself from speaking of the story this time, all I will say is that it is about a girl, whose heart is destroyed and embarks on a colorful neon world divided into 23 levels of pure frenzy and rhythm.
Make no mistake, because Sayonara Wild Hearts is not your typical rhythmic musical game, since as I said before, the game is divided into 23 levels in which we will be told a story, very subtly. Each level overflows the charisma and affection of the designers, they are full of many colors and thanks to the frenetic, fast and satisfying gameplay, this becomes a magical journey from which we will not want to take off.
In each level, the player controls the main character as they automatically travel through a surrealistic landscape alongside a pop music soundtrack. The general mechanics of each level change, but in general the player attempts to guide the character to collect hearts across the level to each points, while avoiding obstacles. Normally, we will move laterally throughout the stage which we will cover, we must bear in mind that the theme of each level may change, so perhaps we will be flying through the air instead of being on dry land.
In some levels, the player will be prompted to press a button in time with the soundtrack to make a jump or avoid an obstacle. Other levels may require the player to move a cursor on screen to target a bow-and-arrow weapon to defeat enemies. During the levels, the player will encounter different boss encounters, which will incorporate a mix of movement and timed button presses to avoid attacks. The player earns points for hearts collected, timing on button presses, and avoiding obstacles, and are rated on a bronze, silver, or gold rating for each.
The duration in a video game can be a very important aspect since it defines how long we will be playing. I have to say that sometimes, shortest experiences are better than long ones and this is something that Sayonara Wild Hearts does to the letter, since it has a fairly short duration of only about two hours, personally it is not something that minds me but there are some people to this aspect can be bad. Actually, this would be the only negative aspect of the game and this depends on your perspective when it comes to playing.
As a side note, Sayonara Wild Hearts was developed for 5 years, it is somewhat sad that the game has a short duration of two hours, so I feel that we should all buy the game right now and try the game, in order not to miss this great rhythmic and musical experience. Sayonara Wild Hearts moves away from the mainstream, it is not your typical rhythmic
game and that is what makes it so different and special, it is not just another video game, it is a love letter to fans of the genre.
