I wasn´t thinking of doing this post at first because I feel that I´ve missed a lot of great games this year like God of War Ragnarok or Elden Ring, past year, I was highly restricted to only play Switch games since that was the only console I had at that time, I think you get the point. At the end of the day, I decided to publish the post because I thought that maybe someone, even if it was only a person, they would find the list interesting and I think that´s more than enough reasons. Before begining, take into consideration that this list is only applied to videogames from 2022 and games that only were released on Nintendo Switch, some of them are on pc as well.
Number 5: Kirby and the Forgotten Land
It has a cool level design and some great boss fights, the best I've seen in a Kirby game, it looks artistically nice but graphically it's not far behind either, honestly, this is the game that Kirby needed for quite some time. Apart from absorbing the powers of his enemies, Kirby can also devour things, I really don't know how to explain it, but it gives another perspective to the game in certain levels. I'm glad this game exists, Kirby has been more of the same for a long time now, it was exhausting to the fanbase, Forgotten Land feels like a breath of fresh air and as a very good game.
Number 4: Bayonetta 3
Bayonetta 3 is my favorite game of its franchise, it´s a festival of frenzy where the action doesn´t stop, in addition to having many weapons and options to defeat your enemies, it also seems to me the Bayonetta with the best story, Bayonetta 3, at least for me, is the best Platinum Games has released in years.
There has been a lot of rumors going around the internet that the game runs badly and that the Switch can't handle it, but that´s not true, I completed it and the game run smoothly all the time, it's true that the game has its frame drops, but they are not aggravated and honestly I didn't even notice them.
Number 3: Signalis
Signalis is an indie survival horror game, developed by only two people, and still, it's the best thing I've played in the genre in a long time. Signalis makes exquisite use of its atmosphere and sounds, making us feel insecure in an oppressive environment, it´s a very tense game, it left me breathless, the game contains great puzzles, but real puzzles, not today "puzzles" which are a joke. The story of Signalis is quite cryptic, so it's quite complicated to understand, it's not a perfect game, but it has definitely stolen my heart, it's a game that I recommend to anyone who likes the survival horror genre.
Number 2: Triangle Strategy
Triangle Strategy is a game I wouldn't normally play, but a part of me decided to give it a try, despite not being a fan of the SRPG genre. I have to say that I don't regret the almost 100 hours that I put into Triangle Strategy and that if it wasn't for the next game on the list, Triangle Strategy would be my GOTY of 2022.
It seems to me that one of the biggest points of this game is its narrative, how excellently written is and how it talks about themes such as slavery, racism, xenophobia, religion, etc, the world building is amazing as well, your decisions are important and they actually matter, nothing to undo it or time travel to change things. The combat system is highly addictive and quite challenging, each confrontation has its importance and many of them have an adrenaline rush that I am unable to describe, all of this accompanied by an excellent soundtrack.
Number 1: Xenoblade Chronicles 3
I´m a huge Xeno fanboy so this was pretty obvious, but yeah, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is my GOTY of 2022, the truth is, it's a game which I connected a lot, on a very intimate and emotional level. I have a hard time putting into words what this game means to me, so I'll just say that I totally recommend it, despite being the third game in the mainline, it's the most accessible to get into and you don't have to play the previous games to understand it.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 talks about themes like life and death in a subtle and beautiful way, the horrors of war and so on, within everything that Xenoblade Chronicles is, it´s the darkest, most mature and adult game in the franchise, probably one of the most mature games I´ve played on the Switch too. It has the deepest gameplay in the franchise, but at the same time, the easiest to understand, its soundtrack is lovely and the world is just awesome and fun to explore, and of course, the game looks beautiful, the screenshots don´t do justice to the game.
All of the screenshots were taken by me
I've heard almost entirely good things about Signalis. Maybe it is time I stopped delaying and actually started playing it
Signalis was truly a surprise to me, I didn´t expect it to be that good, I think if you play it you´ll enjoy it.
🙂Without a doubt, I prefer Kirby and the Forgotten Land, it is a game that is out of the ordinary. I had the joy of playing it several times on my cousin's Nintendo when he came from Lima, I loved it but now, unfortunately,😅 I can't play it anymore because my cousin doesn't visit us anymore.
A shame you are not allowed to play it anymore, it´s really fun, I hope you can manage to play it someday again.
We all have different games we like to play, man, that's normal. We also need good machines to play the best games of the year. I think your favorites for 2022 are also interesting. I'm especially interested in Triangle Strategy. I will look into this game a bit.
Thank you, I´d recommend you Triangle Strategy, it´s a gem, I think it´s on pc now as well so you could give it a try someday :) let´s see if I can play GOWR or Elden Ring this year.
