Previously I showed you some of the tanks in War Thunder, now today we are going to take a look at the naval combat.
There are two types of fleets, Coastal and Bluewater, and the boats differ as do the maps for each type.
For Coastal the maps are more close quartered and the boats smaller

There are Torpedo boats, Sub-chasers, Gun boats and eventually you captain a Frigate.
In a coastal map the control points are placed close together and you spawn within shooting distance of the enemy.

As seen here in game.

If your boat is lightly armored or your crew exposed its probably best to take cover behind a land mass and let the more aggressive sailors go past and poke out to shoot enemies from range.

The cover approach worked well for the torpedo boat, while going out guns blazing earned me some take downs but ultimately crippled the ship within the first few seconds of the game.
Here on the bottom left is the boat status and you can see my buoyancy is at 49% and there is damage on almost every part of the boat.

And here the boat is doing the complete opposite and is instead on fire!

My boats sunk shortly after the photos were taken. Yes I did take out some enemy players but the damage they did to me was hard hitting!

They tool bar for ships has a few more options. On the far left is the gun turret and 1 is your ammunition, Q is your torpedo trajectory before you launch, Space launches your torpedo, G enables a smoke wall to visually cover your boat from enemies, 5 is artillery, 6 is fire prevention, 7 is the repair kit, 8 is the buoyancy repair, and 0 is the tow hook to help if you or an ally get beached on shore (This does happen frequently).
Next up we have the Blue Water fleet which is long ranged on open waters. The ship types are Destroyers, Light cruisers and eventually full sized battleships!

The maps are huge, the control points are spread out and the spawns are further apart.

look at the size of these ships!

The usual range for combat is 2 to 6 KM and as you can see it already looks pretty hectic. One of the enemy captains put up a smoke wall so I decided to line up my shot and lob some torpedoes into it.

One of the cool features is when you fire your cannons if you tap and hold the fire button your camera can follow the shell to its destination.
You can also observe the battlefield!

It does feel awesome to track your shot all the way to a hit target.

But alas, I was so focused on looking at my cannon shot that I didn't see the enemy torpedoes making their way towards me until...
'Torpedo ahead!' was the last thing my crew shouted out before my ship exploded.

Although the queues are longer the Naval combat is exciting and fun to play, the different boat speeds and boat drifting is something to get used to and managing that while trying to hit your enemy at a certain range and moving in a totally different direction from you takes practice for sure!
Next post will be about the bread and butter of War Thunder, Planes!
Thank you for reading.
