Ahoy! A little while ago new XXL and XXS sizes were discovered for a few Pokémon in Pokémon GO. At that time only Poochyena, Mightyena and Mawile could be encountered in XXL or XXS size. Since that release I never encountered any of them in those sizes, only in XL or XS.
Since earlier this week, all Pokémon can now be encountered in these XXL and XXS sizes though! Which means for Community Day Classic featuring Larvitar this Saturday it's possible to encounter those as smaller and larger ones.
When you encounter a Pokémon that's XXL or XXS in height it will show "It"s HUGE" or "It's TINY" in the encounter. You can see that these are also bigger or smaller than the average version of these Pokémon. In my thumbnail I have the average and then an XXL Parasect next to each other.
After catching one of these XXL or XXS Pokémon it will show a new size record. As you can see with this XXL Shadow Weepinbell that I caught.
I do think it's a bit annoying that this shows up, because when you click on the X you then still have to click another time to close the Pokémon' overview and go back to the map. So yeah this new size record adds an extra click before closing it. Normally when you get a new size record it just shows that as an overlay that goes away by itself, which I didn't mind. This one is a bit annoying.
I've encountered a few XXL and XXS Pokémon since the release, but not many. Here are two XXL and one XXS that I encountered.
Does evolving increase the catch count for the badge?
When the XXL and XXS sizes were added to the game, we also received two badges. One badge that tracks your XXL catches and one that catches your XXS catches.
Now I was wondering if evolving XXL and XXS Pokémon would count for the badge or not, because evolving does increase the catch number in your Pokédex for the Pokémon it becomes when you evolve one.
I decided to try it out with this Shadow Weepinbell. I went to check my Jumbo Pokémon Collector medal and it was at 125 after catching this Weepinbell.
Then I evolved it into Victreebel, went to check back on the badge and as you can see it now increased to 126.
So yes, evolving an XXL or XXS Pokémon then the evolved Pokémon will increase the catch number for these badges!
That could make it a bit faster to get these badges to Platinum.
