Ahoy Hive Gaming and fellow Splinterlands players! Earlier this week when I got back home I was watching the SplinterlandsTV stream. It was @bunsbagsandcaps who was streaming at that time and they were hosting a tournament during the stream. This was taking place shortly after the maintenance. I still had a bit of time to sign up for it once I was home so I decided to enter and play.
I had a bye in the qualifier round, then starting from the 2nd round I was able to start battling. One round I beat my opponent without losing a battle, but in the other rounds I did lose one battle. Here is the results screen where you can see I had 11 wins and 4 losses in total. The top 5 is also included in this screenshot.

Finishing the tournament in 1st place I won 500 DEC and a Chaos Legion Pack. I haven't opened it yet since I still have a bunch of packs and you know I love opening 10 Chaos Legion Packs after claiming my EoS rewards.
The player finishing in 26th place also received 500 DEC and a Chaos Legion Pack.

Let's have a look at some of the rounds and the battles now.
In round 4 I was up against the amazing player slaifer-red-01 who I often see doing really well in tournaments! This promised to be a tough round!

Here is the lineup from the first battle that I had against them.

Magic Attack monsters could not be used in that battle. We both decided to pick a Dragon Summoner and had a similar frontline both using Djinn Chwala as the tank followed by Carnage Titan. I used a Taunt in the backline to draw away some of their damage. My opportunity monsters were all attacking their backline. Due to their reduction of my Lira the Dark's ranged attack, I needed all 3 of my opportunity cards just to take away the armor on their Runic Skyclaw. I mostly won this battle thanks to the healing and the Runi's resurrect that both stalled the fight. Of course the misses against my Dragon Jumper also helped me to take out the Arkemis.

The next battle I had against them was a really long and slow battle. From this picture of the lineup you might immediately understand why.

Here you can see that the rules were Wands Out, Aimless and Equalizer. So we could only use Magic Attack monsters, they all had scattershot and all Monsters ended up having the same health.
I decided to go with Thaddius Brood to reduce the Magic Attack and Health on my opponents side by 1. With the Elven Mystic in my lineup to further reduce the Magic Attack. My opponent chose Immortalis as Summoner, which is also really great with the -1 health and giving Void to all their Monsters. I would've likely chosen Immortalis too, but I only have him at level 1 right now.
I didn't have a lot of damage against my opponent, only Djinn Muirat and Cthulhu could deal direct damage.
If my Doctor Blight had landed a few more Affliction on the backline then I might have been able to win. Especially as both Doctor Blight and Venari Bonesmith had a chance to apply Poison whenever they hit a target. So it really came down to that RNG of landing the Poison and Affliction on as many Monsters as possible. I didn't land enough of those so I ended up losing this battle after a long fight.
What's interesting with this battle is that @bunsbagsandcaps showed this on stream and it said there was a 49% chance for me to win and a 51% chance for slaifer-red-01 to win this battle. Which made this battle even more intense!
The battle ended up going into fatigue. If you would like to watch it, here is the link: https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_eecf077308b4abc368e2b8f0ced2edaa&ref=athunderstruck
Then the final battle against slaifer was a victory for me. In the final round it mostly came down to the RNG of who would attack first, because my ranged unit was about to be in the frontline. I'm glad RNG was in my favour here, as it had not been in the previous fight. In the next round, which was the semi-final, I was up against odinsonzalpha. Just like the round against slaifer I managed to win the first battle, lost the 2nd and then won the 3rd battle.
The first battle was

Our first battle was a win for me . Where I played Yodin Zaku against Tarsa in a battle with the Poison ruleset and Close Range. I used the new Venari Marksrat card with Martyr here to buff my Lava Launcher and Cornealus. I brought Cornealus because of the Heal to help with the Poison.
The second battle was a loss for me. I played Obsidian and my opponent brought Grandmaster Rathe. It was reverse speed ruleset. Their Void Armor and Magic Reflect caused me to lose the battle. Especially because they had Adelade Brightwing to repair that Void Armor.
The third battle was a win for me again. In this battle only Melee Attack Monsters could be used and only Monsters with Odd Mana cost. I chose to use Byzantine Kitty as the summoner for the speed buff and have Serpent of Eld in the frontline because of Dodge ability. With my speed increase and the Dodge it really helped to avoid attacks and then my Serpent of Eld and Carnage Titan just killed everything.

In the final round I was up against keithray. Another great player that I have seen in tournaments several times.

The final round was a best of 5. I won the first battle, but lost the second battle. Then I won the next 2 battles to become the winner.
The battle that I lost was against Grandmaster Rathe as the summoner again just like in the previous round. It seems to be telling me that I really need to get this summoner myself xP
You can watch all the battles by going to the tournament link I posted earlier and checking the "battles" section where you can use the arrows to navigate between each round.
For this round I'll cover the final battle where we both used the same Summoner. Which was Obsidian.

This battle had the Keep Your Distance, Little League and Tis but Scratches rulesets. Monsters with Melee Attack couldn't be used in this battle. Grandmaster Rathe couldn't be used in this battle because only Monsters and Summoner up to 4 Mana could be used. That made the best picks Obsidian and Thaddius Brood.
A lot of our Monster choices were the same! We both used Failed Summoner in the front line with Magic Reflect to return damage to the Magic Attackers and then we both had Queen Mycelia to increase the damage from Magic Reflect. We also both used Spirit Hoarder in the backline with Triage to heal one of our Monsters. Then a Doctor Blight as well that could land Poison for additional damage.
Where is really sets the battle apart is that I brought Elven Mystic, with the Silence ability it reduced my opponents Magic Attack by 1 so cancelling out the Obsidian Summoner buff. Then I also had Iza the Fanged in my team with Sneak. She attacked my opponents Spirit Hoarder, destroying its armor. Due to the cripple ruleset its health was then reduced from 3 to 2, so when that Spirit Hoarder attacked my Failed Summoner it ended up dying from the Magic Reflect.
