Hello there, gamers!

It has been quite a long time since I last made any content related to videogames. Taking into consideration that Epic Games give us free games during the last days of December, it was due time to get into some review of some kind.

The game in the spotlight is Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel. It is a roguelike "shooter" of the same kind of games like Vampire Survivors. The concept is simple. There are arenas to slay enemies. You complete objectives. You fight the boss of the area. You can progress. The stages are some of the Nine Realms of Norse Mythology, so you might recognize some of the names of the places. There are 6 types of characters to choose. Three of them are melee characters and the rest have ranged attacks.

The similarity with other roguelike games comes in the form of the upgrades and power-ups you can get. Since the setting is Nordic Mythology, you get blessings, abilities and boons from a variety of Norse Gods like Thor, Freya, Odin, and other characters from the pantheon.

The game also offers more challenges as you progress. There are harder modes for the raids and modifiers that make everything even more difficult. That is a way to revisit and use the same assets without having to add too much to it.

It is quite a nice game to kill some time. I have been hooked on it since it was given for free in the Epic Store. And after testing the characters one by one and getting some gold for the upgrades, decided that the Archmage, the last unlockable character, is my favorite. It can select from 4 different sub-classed after level 10 and each one gives you a way to play the raid. The other characters are interesting in their own way. The main one, the Berserker, is the one you can use to fill like a true Viking.

I will give the whole gaming experience a 7/10. It is a cool game and the setting does a lot for it. However, some roguelikes get quite repetitive really fast. This is not the exception. However, it is interesting to look for ways to get the best combinations of skills and passives to create bullet hells and melt enemies in the screen.

The graphic are cool. It reminds me a lot of Diablo and their dark phantasy world. In that regard, it works for me. The controls are quite easy. You just need to move and most of the abilities you throw at enemies are on auto cast. So your task is staying alive by getting out of the way of the enemies.

Would I recommend this game? Sure, it is a way to entertain yourself for some hours. It is not the best game in the world, but if you like roguelikes, this is a title for you. Unfortunately, it is not free at the moment, but if you managed to reclaim it, you can give it a try!
