Axie Infinity published their latest developer update for the month of June, highlighting some of the team's most recent accomplishments:
- They have reached roughly 620 active weekly users
- The number of Axie holders has increased by 30% since December of last year
- They have had almost 5000 downloads of the game to date
The team continues to make strides in the land system component of the game as well. Axies are now able to venture past their land plots and explore the surrounding world of "Lunacia".
The details on how Axie vs. Chimera battles will be integrated into the land map are still being worked on. The team is exploring the possibility of adding collaborative social quests and linking them to Chimera battles for rare land resources.
Some resource spawning locations have been added to the map, the value of which will correspond to the quality of the land they sit on. The gameplay mechanics continue to be tested internally as the team works towards a community release.
Earlier in the week, the team announced their new scaling solution. As of now, land and items are sitting atop the Loom blockchain, but will be migrated later this year to Axie's own proprietary blockchain called "Ronin".
Game overview
In Axie Infinity players collect cute creatures called Axies. Each one has specific characteristics making it unique. Players send their Axies into battle to gain experience, breed them to produce new Axies, and sell them on the open market.
The game is currently ranked #28 on non-fungible.com, a site that ranks crypto-collectable games based on their weekly NFT (non-fungible token) sales volume. In the past week, a total of 92 Axies have been traded for a total volume of $2306 USD.
Since each Axie has unique attributes, their value can vary greatly from one to another. The first Axies that were sold by the developers have the "origin" tag attached to them, and some contain mystic parts adding even more to their value.
The cheapest Axie on the market is currently going for 0.0189 Eth ($4.33), but there have been sales of individual Axies exceeding 100 Eth ($23,000) in the past. Newbies who are finding it difficult to estimate the price of an Axie can join the Discord server and ask in the #marketplace channel.
While it's possible to buy just one or two, in order to participate in battles players need to have at least three Axies. They can be purchased from OpenSea or on Axie Infinity's marketplace:
In a sign of confidence, last November the game received 1.5 million dollars in funding from Anomica Brands.
Given the responsiveness of the team members on Discord, frequent communication with the community, and venture capital funding, I'm quite optimistic for the future of this game.
