Howdy Gamers

I recently picked up Super Mario 3D Worlds + Bowser's Fury for the Nintendo Switch.

Super Mario 3D Worlds has been out for a while now but the new game Bowsers Fury just released recently on the 15th of February.

I haven't played a Super Mario game since Super Mario Sunshine on the gamecube. After seeing some review footage of Bowsers Fury I was intrigued enough to pick up the game.

I have to say I'm glad I did as the game is a hell of a lot of fun and I have had a blast collecting footage and taking screenshots for this post.

In this video we cover the first set of Islands, the story and objectives of the game.

The story begins with Mario taking a stroll when he discovers this strange black goo...

Falling into the goo we fall head first into a new area where a storm is brewing.I love the way the rain bounces of Mario's hat here...

Before long we encounter what looks like a ship.Of in the distance we see a gigantic Godzilla like version of Bowser.....A very impressive cutscene kicks in with lighting flashing around Bowser,he starts breathing fire and raining down lava on Mario.

We make it to this cat shine item which lights up a lighthouse ,Bowser doesn't seem to like the light shining on him and he dives back into the lake for now.

The lighthouse activation also clears some of the black goo from the lake and our first set of Islands rises from the water.

The aim of each stage is to collect a certain number of cat shines to activate a giant goo covered Giga bell. When this bell is activated Mario becomes Giga Mario and is increased to the same size as Bowser....

When this happens a battle ensues that reminds me a lot of old Godzilla movies....Two giant creatures fighting over what now look like tiny islands.....Bowzilla vs Giga Mario!

At the start of the game we meet Bowser junior who is concerned for his Papa and wants Marios help to save him.Bowser Junior's weapon of choice is a paint brush and he illustrates his concerns about his papa with some oil paintings.I think they have a very expressive feel to them... :)

Bowser Jr helps you on your adventure and if you choose to play a 2 player game one player wll control Mario and the other will control Bowser Junior.

As mentioned above our main aim is to collect cat shines to activate the lighthouses and eventually the Gia Bell so we can face Bowser.

Along the way we find a few different power ups...

The first is Cat Suit Mario ,this suit lets you climb walls and has a cat scratch attack..

Snapshot_56 (1024x576).jpg

Snapshot_74 (1024x576).jpg

Snapshot_64 (1024x576).jpg

Next we have the Boomerang suit which lets you attack with a boomerang...

Snapshot_66 (1024x576).jpg

There is also the classic Fireball Mario suit which lets you fire 2 fireballs which will bounce around the zone. This is my favorite one to use for attacking, gotta love those fireballs

Snapshot_75 (800x450).jpg

Snapshot_78 (800x450).jpg

Snapshot_79 (800x450).jpg

There is also the classic Raccoon suit which gives youa tail attack and you can sort of fly/slow fall with it to.I didn pick one up in the video above but they are pretty easy to find.

You can change between suits by pressing up on the d pad.

On the second stage we encounter Yoshi, its a hell of a lot of fun to glide around the zone on his back.He is kinda hard to control and can power slide around the zone killing enemies and knocking down trees...Awesome stuff ,go Yoshi!

I guess the last thing to mention is the music , I love the music in Mario games and tend to find myself humming it after I have been playing for a while. The normal music is happy and upbeat.

When Bowser rises from the lake it starts to rain and the music turns suitability ominous .

To conclude this review I will say I think this game is a lot of fun.I didn't expect to enjoy it as much s I do.Its a colorful cartoony platformer and the Godzilla like boss fights are pretty damn epic. The different power ups help to keep things interesting and fun.

Overall I'm glad I picked this one up and I will likely keep playing it all the way to completion so stay tuned for more Mario and Bowzilla Adventures.

I often wonder if these crazy situations Mario finds himself in are really happening or if it's all just a hallucination derived from 30+ years of eating mushrooms, magic stars and exotic flowers?
