Chess Brothers weekly tournament review S4T2 "A little bit of everything"

The second round of the fourth season of the Chess Brothers League took place with 22 players. We had as always a very exciting chess full of critical moments, stumbles, last minute turns and all the incidents that a good blitz game triggers. This time we played a 7-round Swiss tournament with 3+2 time control, the standard par excellence.

Certainly, some absences were noted by prominent players, such as @samostically and @eniolw who joined the contest with a significant delay. However, this did not detract from the quality, in fact, the average rating was 1995 points, quite close to the 2000 barrier, which indicates a good consistency in the general level.

The results

As for the final standings for this tournament, we had a couple of interesting surprises: Lichess player vasyam took the throne by totaling 6 units out of a possible 7. He just had a stumble. The same was done by his escort, ** orfischer **, with 6 wins and one loss. Close behind in third place is @vjap55 who had 5.5 points. In 4th place, @eniolw, who despite his delay was able to consolidate 4.5 points, and to complete the podium of five players, @lucianosky took 5th place with 4 points. Interesting moments

Let's take a look at some positions played in the tournament:

In the game between @lucianosky vs @vjap55, Black reached a dream position in which he has practically taken total domination of the board, as the white pieces, especially the bishop on h2 and the knight on g1, are totally indisposed. This is a clear example of the fact that the value of the pieces is extremely relative, since they do not perform any specific action on the battlefield, the material value is negligible; the pieces are there, but they contribute nothing. Black in the game indulged in many luxuries orbiting in imprecise plans.

@lucianosky vs @vjap55: Una posición de ensueño, ¿cierto?

In the diagram we can find an interesting way to sentence White by seeking the break on c6 with the Rc8 maneuver followed by the advance of the pawn to c6. This would open up the position and White would have no way to withstand the onslaught of the enemy army. In the game Black did not do this and White was activated a little, but not enough and the second player ended up taking the point much later.

Let's look at another case.

In the game between @stayoutoftherz vs @jaki01, the black pieces have chosen to play a rather energetic opening phase of the game with extreme imbalance, in fact, their dynamics in the opening brought several benefits, one of them has been the rapid incorporation of forces in the combat arena against the poor development of white. The white monarch is still in the center and his structure is a little worse than that of his opponent. Of course, the game continues and Black must work those small advantages. However, at this point Black decides to "sacrifice" the exchange, but in unfavorable conditions and perhaps hoped to get a more critical counterplay, which was of course quite well countered by @stayoutoftherz.

@stayoutoftherz vs @jaki01: Black would have been comfortable if he had chosen the easy option.

In the diagram Black has the simple move Rb8, which in the first instance takes the piece out of danger, but also poses a serious blow on b2, which is not so comfortable to defend, and if we add to that the activity of the black bishops, things can only get better for Black. After Black's move, which passes the rook, White consolidated a winning scheme which he maintained until the end of the game, leaving aside the "tricks" and other threats. After a dramatic time trouble and with a clear advantageous position, White took the victory.

Reseña del torneo semanal de Chess Brothers S4T2 "De todo un poco"

Con 22 jugadores se llevó acabo la segunda ronda de la cuarta temporada de la Liga Chess Brothers. Tuvimos como siempre un ajedrez bastante emocionante lleno de momentos críticos, tropiezos, giros de última y hora y todas las incidencias que una buena partida de blitz desencadena. En esta oportunidad jugamos un torneo suizo a 7 rondas con control de tiempo 3+2, el estándar por excelencia.

Ciertamente, se notaron algunas ausencias por parte de destacados jugadores, tales como @samostically y @eniolw quien se incorporó a la contienda con un importante retraso. Sin embargo, esto no restó calidad ni mucho menos, de hecho, el rating promedio se ubicó en los 1995 puntos, bastante próximo a la barrera de los 2000, los cual nos indica una buena consistencia en el nivel general.

Los resultados

En cuanto a la clasificación final de este torneo tuvimos un par de sorpresas interesantes: el jugador de Lichess vasyam se hizo con el trono al totalizar 6 unidades de 7 posibles. Solo tuvo un tropiezo. Lo propio hizo su escolta, orfischer, con 6 victorias y una derrota. Muy de cerca en la tercera posición @vjap55 quien sumó 5.5 unidades. En el puesto número 4, @eniolw, que pese a su retraso pudo consolidar 4.5 puntos, y para completar el podio de cinco jugadores, @lucianosky se quedó con el 5_o puesto con 4 tantos. Momentos interesantes

Echemos un vistazo a algunas posiciones jugadas en el torneo:

En la partida entre @lucianosky vs @vjap55, las negras alcanzaron una posición de ensueño en la que prácticamente se han quedado con el dominio total del tablero, pues las piezas blancas, en especial el alfil de h2 y el caballo de g1, están totalmente indispuestas. Este es un claro ejemplo de que el valor de las piezas es sumamente relativo, pues al no desempeñar alguna acción en concreto dentro del campo de batalla, el valor material es despreciable; las piezas están allí, pero no aportan nada. Las negras en la partida se dieron muchos lujos orbitando en planes poco precisos.

@lucianosky vs @vjap55: Una posición de ensueño, ¿cierto?

En el diagrama podemos encontrar una interesante manera de sentenciar a las blancas al buscar la ruptura en c6 con la maniobra Tc8 seguido del avance del peón a c6. Esto abriría la posición y las blancas no tendrían cómo soportar la embestida del ejército enemigo. En la partida las negras no hicieron esto y las blancas se activaron un poco, pero no lo suficiente y el segundo jugador terminó llevándose el punto mucho tiempo después.

Veamos otro caso.

En la partida entre @stayoutoftherz vs @jaki01, las piezas negras han optado por jugar una fase inicial del juego bastante enérgica con sumo desequilibrio, de hecho, su dinámica en la apertura trajo varios beneficios, uno de ellos ha sido la rápida incorporación de las fuerzas en la arena de combate frente al pobre desarrollo de las blancas. El monarca blanco sigue en el centro y su estructura es un poco peor que la de su adversario. Por supuesto, la partida continúa y las negras deben trabajar esas pequeñas ventajas. No obstante, en este momento las negras deciden "sacrificar" la calidad, pero en condiciones poco favorables y quizá esperaban obtener un contrajuego más crítico, cosa que desde luego fue bastante bien contraarrestado por @stayoutoftherz.

@stayoutoftherz vs @jaki01: Las negras estarían cómodas de elegir el camino sencillo.

En el diagrama las negras tienen la sencilla jugada Tb8, lo cual en primera instancia quita a la pieza del peligro, pero además plantea un serio golpe en b2, lo cual no es tan cómodo de defender, y si a eso sumamos la actividad de los alfiles negros, la cosa solo puede mejorar para las negras. Luego de la jugada de las negras, la cual pasa de la torre, las blancas consolidaron un esquema ganador el cual mantuvieron hasta el final de la partida, dejando al margen los "trucos" y demás amenazas. Tras un dramático apuro de tiempo y con posición claramente ventajosa, las blancas se llevaron la victoria.
