Hi there. There are new cards coming out from Pokemon Japan's Starter decks. These decks release in Japan on December 19, 2025. It is unknown if the international audience gets some of these cards in the Ascended Heroes special set in late January 2025.
Koraidon ex
This new Koraidon ex is a Tera Fighting Basic Pokemon. This has 230 HP and just 2 attacks. Both of these attacks are not great. There is no Fighting Energy acceleration in the game to power up its attacks fast.
I rally like Koraidon as a Pokemon. The design on Koraidon really appeals to me. It is a shame they make the Koraidon cards not so playable. The only somewhat useable Koraidon card is this one.
Miraidon ex
This new Tera Miraidon ex could see play comeptitively. You can combine this one with the G regulation mark Miraidon ex with the Tandem Unit ability.
The Tera Miraidon ex has a good first attack of Slashing Claw for 40 damage from 1 Lightning Energy. A one energy attack that does 40 damage from a Basic Pokemon is very rare and good.
The Hadron Spike requires 2 Lightning Energy and 1 Colourless Energy to deal 120 damage. If the opponent's Active Pokemon is a Pokemon ex, then this attack does 120 more damage for a total of 240 damage.
Mawile & Registeel ex
Mawile's Call For Family attack is very good as you can Bench 2 Basic Pokemon from your Deck. The Bite attack is not very good though.
Registeel ex is very bad. Don't use this. I don't know why they make Registeel bad in the card game.
Hoopa
Hoopa is a Basic 120 HP Dark Pokemon. The first attack of Filch requires any 1 Energy for drawing 2 cards. The Knuckle Impact second attack requires 2 Dark and 1 Colourless Energy to deal 130 damage. The drawback of this second attack is that Hoopa cannot attack during your next turn.
Hoopa is not awful but not good enough for competitive play it seems.
Mega Hawlucha Special Illustration Rare
There is an English reveal of Mega Hawlucha ex, the special illustration rare card. It is very colourful.
Closing Notes
Cards from Japan's starter decks tend to be not very good. You may get a few cards from there that are good for players. One example is the Tera Miraidon ex listed above.
I predict more information to be released when it comes to these starter decks, new sets and Pokemon's 30th anniversary.
