In Even Frontier, just getting close to a system with a station can be quite the undertaking. While there are gates, once you get closer to places with stations. Out where I am, it’s more the wild west with needing to do jumps. Just finding where a station is, let alone a path, is quite the challenge.
For any long-term goals, I was going to need to be within a reasonable range of a station. As one of the items I'd be needing, you must buy from NPCs. Where I was was in the middle of nowhere, far away.
In my last attempt at finding a new system, I went out in my best ship. I jumped into a system that I quickly found I could not escape. I fell into a heat trap and ended up losing that ship.
Since then, I ended up crafting a new ship. Not as good as the one before that I'd have preferred to have for combat or mining. It, however, had the same amount of storage for fuel and had a lot less mass. So the chances of me getting stuck in another heat trap are quite slim. I’d also get a little more range out of the smaller ship.
I’d also need to be refueling as I went. So, outside of fuel, I ended up taking nothing else with me. It kind of sucked having to leave everything behind. I, however, needed to be in a position where I could further progress.
It was quite the daunting task alone just trying to find a station. Let alone how to get to it. It’s not like Even Online, where I just type in a system and I get a generated path I can take. Since there were no gates for most of my trip. I’d have to work out the route some other way.

As you can see in the screenshot. The distance I'd need to go from where I was to a station was quite a large one. Every single tiny little dot is a system. My ship also can’t jump that far, and heat is still a huge issue.
So even if I attempted to move forward and had momentum in the direction I went. If I were going at this blind, there would in fact be times where I'd find myself having to turn back around and try a different path. As you can reach points where the next system to move forward is just too far away to make the jump.
Thankfully, some tools assist you in finding a route to a place like a station. I ended my trip, changed my end destination once I realized there was a closer station that would shave off 10 jumps from my original trip plan.
My biggest fear now would be either falling into another heat trap or landing in a system without enough fuel to jump away. Along with that, the system does not have the required materials for me to farm to create more fuel. Any death or trap I'd fall into, and I'd be all the way back at where I had set up. Adding another strike next to the number of failed attempts I had.
While it was tempting to be greedy and wait for the last possible jump before having to stop to mine and craft more fuel. I knew that was not going to be worth the risk. At around half of my fuel remaining, even if I didn't like the idea. I’d stop and top off on fuel again.

Along the way, I did run into a few sites I've not seen before. Many times, they were filled with NPCs, and I'd have to jump out of that location in a system as quickly as possible. I’d also find strange stuff like this, where it had cargo containers filled with ores. I took note of this particular site just in case I end up needing to resort to getting what I needed for fuel from such a site on my trip.
Early in the trip, after jumping into a system. I’d stop and record all the sites it had. Then it realized the chances of me ever visiting these systems again were almost 30 jumps out from my target, which were slim to none. There are an insane number of systems in Even Frontier, and while I'd want to map the area closer to wherever I end up rebuilding. Now was not the time.

I had a feeling that my chances of failure went out the window once I started to run into systems with gates in them. I'd need to make a jump from one set of systems that related to gates to another. I ended up having a good 10 or so systems where I got to use gates and use very little fuel moving around.
The gates themselves were of many different types. Made my ship feel and look tiny. I also wondered for a while if this is the size of the gates. How big do ships get in Eve Frontier? Not something I'll be finding out any time soon.

I then landed in a system that had a station called a Keep. While I did dock inside and make sure the item I'd need one day was for sale. I did not stick around long. I went out looking for a new system to set up.
I ended up jumping around a bit, checking out other systems linked to the set of gates. While most lacked all three types of resources, among other things, I was looking to have in a system. I found a new place.
While it had one other player who was set up there. We had a mutual understanding of leaving each other alone. I thought this was great, as I had not yet fully set up to the point I could change my respawn point to the new system I was in. A death now would be a major setup, and I'd have to make the trip all over again.

This new system had quite a few locations in it to farm in. While one of the ores only had one spawn. I did not think it would be that big of a deal. I ended up rebuilding all my buildings. Then I made myself a new ship that I could mine about one and a half times more than the ship I was using.
What I did not realize was just how wrong I'd be. I ended up mining out the one asteroid of the ore that only had a single spawn in the system. I thought, like everything else, a new one would spawn a few moments later.
I went to look at the map, and it no longer showed up. Hours passed by, and still that ore was not back in the system. I then checked all the gates that were connected, and not even one of them had that ore in it either.
I then started jumping one or two systems out from where I had rebuilt. That was not going to be an ideal situation. At least getting some of the ore now and hoping that at some point it would respawn was better than nothing. I, however, found nothing.
Final Thoughts

All my efforts have been to travel a decent distance away from my old base. Setting everything up again. Along with rebuilding a new ship. All my plans ended up getting spoiled by the lack of needed resources to progress. I’d have needed to have done many days of farming to progress into the next ship. It was clear that it was no longer going to happen any time soon.
Since the trial period was coming to an end, I decided to hang things up for now and call it. They still do quite a lot of wipes in Eve Frontier, so there was no need to put myself into a situation of struggling to the point I'd need for the time being. Hopefully, next time I play, things will go a lot better than they did this time around.
