May the force be with you. You know when we were little we grew up watching iconic characters in TV series or movies, characters like Godzilla, King Kong, Mazinger Z, and Transformers, among others. where the idea of mythical creatures of colossal size facing humans or against other colossal creatures was explored. So that feeling of facing huge creatures was always in the back of my mind.
I watched both seasons of Pacific rim: the black a few days ago. A cool Netflix series that explores the lives of other important characters and their sacrifices and fears. So when I saw humans fighting against giant creatures I thought if there was a game that would give you that same experience, and although there are many very popular titles (the most recent is Elden Ring), I found one that besides offering a great challenge has one of the best gameplay of the time it came out, and it is a game that would be called a legend, it is Shadow of the Colossus.
Shadow of the Colossus is a game developed by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PS2 platform, although it was later remastered for PS4 and PS5, Shadow of the Colossus tells the story of a young man who for love can face the most fearsome creatures to earn the desire to revive his beloved since she was murdered.
The story of Shadow of the Colossus is quite simple but at the same time very interesting. It tells the story of a young man named Wander and his lover called Monkey, Wander's lover is sacrificed because she brings bad luck or many problems to the village to which she belongs, that is why his beloved Wander takes her to a mystical castle and asks for the help of Dormin, a powerful being capable of bringing Monkey back to life but in exchange for a high price that Wander is willing to pay without listening to anyone. So after wander accepts with much ambition to revive his beloved, Dormin gives wander the mission to eliminate 16 giants along with a map, and wander faces every one of these giants, but every time he defeats one wander's body absorbs a strange black mythical creature.
The quest map is full of cliffs and ruins where with the help of your faithful horse or mare Agro, you also have a mythical sword capable of damaging even the most difficult and powerful enemies. The most surprising thing about this game is to face the giants, as it is somewhat incomprehensible that a simple human being defeats huge powerful creatures, but little by little wander achieves it, the names of the 16 giants are:
Valus, Minotaurus Colossus.
Quadratus, Taurus Magnus.
Gaius, Terrestris Veritas.
Phaedra, Equus Bellator Apex.
Avion, Avis Praeda.
Barba, Belua Maximus.

Another quite interesting thing about Shadow of the Colossus is the connection it makes with a previous game called Ico, since after Wander eliminates each colossus he absorbs a black spectrum, which at the end of the game is revealed to be the parts of Dormin that were divided into 16 parts to prevent him from having his absolute power, so after defeating Dormin by making him absorb a vortex of light, a child with horns emerges who has the essence of Wander but with a mark on the horns for having helped Dormin to recover his power.
And in the video game Ico, we know the story of Ico a young horned boy who wants to get rid of his curse because he is set apart and they even plan to kill him because they consider him a bad omen, but with a noble act he gets rid of his horns, so according to this story thread, you must play Shadow of the Colossus to understand Ico and the whole plot.
Now, as for the remake of Shadow of the Colossus, I can say that they improved many visual aspects significantly like a 4K resolution and in 60FPS, but they kept the same story without changing anything about this great classic.
I'm waiting for it to download to try it and share my review about the game and the game mechanics, but well the remaining download time is 6 days and a download speed of 30kps, so I consider it should be a long, but very long time haha.

Saben que cuando éramos pequeños crecimos viendo a personajes icónicos en las series de televisión o en las películas, personajes como Godzilla, King Kong, Mazinger Z, Transformes, entre otros. donde básicamente se exploraba la idea de criaturas míticas de tamaño colosal que se enfrentaban contra los seres humanos o contra otras criaturas colosales. Así que ese sentimiento de enfrentar enormes criaturas siempre estuvo presente en el pensamiento.
hace unos días vi las dos temporadas de Pacific rim: the black. Una genial serie de Netflix la cual explora la vida de otros personajes importantes y sus sacrificios y miedos. Así que al ver humanos peleando contra criaturas gigantes pensé si había un juego que te diera esa misma experiencia, y aunque hay muchos de títulos muy populares (el más reciente es Elden Ring), encontré uno que además de ofrecer un gran desafío tiene una de las mejores jugabilidades de la época en que salió, y es un juego que se denominaría toda una leyenda, se trata de Shadow of the Colossus.
Shadow of the Colossus es un juego desarrollado por Sony Computer Entertainment para la plataforma de PS2, aunque luego fue remasterizado para PS4 y PS5, Shadow of the Colossus cuenta la historia de un joven que por amor es capaz de enfrentarse a las más temibles criaturas para poder ganarse el deseo de revivir a su amada ya que fue asesinada.
La historia de Shadow of the Colossus es bastante simple pero a la vez muy interesante, Cuenta la historia de una joven llamado wander y su enamorada llamada Mono , a la enamorada de wander la sacrifican debido a que trae mala suerte o muchos problemas a la aldea a la que pertenece, es por eso que su amado wander la lleva hasta un castillo místico y pide la ayuda de Dormin un ser poderoso capaz de regresarle la vida a Mono pero a cambio de un alto precio que sin escuchar a nadie wander resta dispuesto a pagar. Así que luego de que wander acepta con mucha ambición en revivir a su amada, Dormin le da la misión a wander de eliminar a 16 colosos a lo largo de un mapa, y wander se enfrenta a todos y cada uno de estos colosos, pero cada vez que derrota a uno el cuerpo de wander absorbe una extraña criatura mítica de color negro.
El mapa de misiones está lleno de acantilados y ruinas donde con la ayuda de tu fiel caballo o yegua Agro, además cuentas con una espada mítica capaz de dañar hasta los enemigos más difíciles y poderosos. Lo más sorprendente de este juego es enfrentarte a los colosos, ya que resulta algo incomprensible que un simple ser humano derrote a enormes criaturas poderosas, pero poco a poco wander lo logra, los nombres de los 16 colosos son:

Otra cosa bastante interesante de Shadow of the Colossus es la conexión que hace con un juego anterior llamado Ico, ya que luego de wander elimina a cada coloso absorbe un espectro negro, que al final de juego se revela que son las partes de Dormin que fueron divididas en 16 partes para evitar que tuviera su poder absoluto, así que luego de derrotar a Dormin haciendo que lo absorba un vórtice de luz, surge un niño con cuernos que tiene la esencia de wander pero con una marca los cuernos por haber ayudado a Dormin a recuperar su poder.
Y en el videojuego Ico, conocemos la historia de Ico un joven con cuernos que quiere librarse de su maldición ya que es apartado y hasta planean matarlo ya que lo consideran un mal presagio, pero con un acto noble se libera de sus cuernos, así que segun este hilo de historia, debes jugar Shadow of the Colossus para entender Ico y la trama entera.
Ahora, en cuanto al remake de Shadow of the Colossus puedo decir que mejoraron muchos aspectos visuales de manera significativa como una resolución 4K y en 60FPS, pero mantuvieron la misma historia sin cambiar nada de este gran clásico.
Yo estoy esperando a que se descargue para probarlo y compartir mi propia reseña sobre el juego y las mecánicas de juego, pero bueno el tiempo restante de descarga es de 6 días y una velocidad de descarga de 30kps, así que considero que debe pasar un largo, pero muy largo tiempo jaja.

Este fue uno de esos juegos que logró cautivarme de joven con la PS2, nunca olvidaré ese sentimiento de ver por primera vez a varios de los colosos, esa sensación de magnitud que transmitían los que eran realmente gigantescos, Dios, era de mis cosas favoritas del juego.
El remake le vino de perlas a este juego, ojalá algún día se animen a sacar una segunda entrega o al menos un sucesor espiritual jaja.

Personalmente lo jugué bastante tarde, hace un par de años ya que anteriormente cuando tenía PS2 no sabía que existía, pero siempre quise jugarlo por el último coloso, lo había visto en un par de videos como un jefe difícil, y eso es lo que me atraía principalmente, siempre busco que los juegos tengan un buen jefe, y SotC es un juego que va 100% sobre jefes, así que me viene bien haha, me gustó mucho, aún tengo pendiente terminar ICO.
Pero hay algo que no me quedó 100% claro, ¿al descargarlo sería tu primera vez jugándolo?
