Today, I'm going to talk about a game that I've played on and off over the years, but never mentioned on my blog. I'm talking about World of Tanks. I've started playing it again in the last few days and weeks, and there's a reason for that. There was a huge update, World of Tanks 2.0, which improved many areas of the game and added completely new content. So today I'd like to talk a little bit about the game in general, the 2.0 update, and my personal impressions. Enjoy reading! 😊
What is World of Tanks?
World of Tanks is a multiplayer tactical shooter with elements of an MMO, developed by “Wargaming” and released in 2010. It is mainly played on PC, but there are also versions for consoles and mobile devices. As the name suggests, the game is about tanks, which are primarily set in the period of World War II. In tactical battles, players compete in teams of 15 players each, attempting to capture the enemy base and eliminate all enemy tanks. As the game progresses, players can unlock a variety of different tanks to use in battle.
The game itself is free, but there are, of course, microtransactions that allow players to access premium content. This makes World of Tanks a “pay-to-progress” game, but not a “pay-to-win” game, as purchases do not give players any decisive advantages in battle. The skill of the individual player plays a very large role in the outcome of the battle.
New Features in Update 2.0
On September 3rd, approximately 15 years after the game's release, the moment finally arrived. Update 2.0 was one of the biggest updates ever released.
The biggest new feature is probably the new Tier XI tanks, as previously the highest Tier was Tier X. A total of 16 new tanks were introduced at this level, all of which now have their own unique special ability, setting them apart from the other tiers. The developers have also announced that more Tier XI tanks will be introduced in the future.
A very significant change was made by balancing and revising the values of over 300 tanks. Although this is still slightly less than half of all tanks available in the game, I was particularly pleased with this change, as tanks of all Tiers were adjusted, which, in my opinion, has greatly increased the enjoyment of the game.
What has also made the game more enjoyable for me personally are the changes to the matchmaking system. The biggest point here is probably that there will be more battles between tanks of the same Tier and, accordingly, fewer battles in which tanks of three different Tiers have to compete against each other. This makes the battles more balanced and more enjoyable for everyone to play.
In addition, there were a number of other changes, such as the redesign of the garage and its user interface, a new map, adjustments to the sounds in the game, and much more.
Gifts for Update 2.0
Update 2.0 has also ensured that now is a very good, if not the best, time for beginners to get started. Whether you've played the game before and just want to check it out again, or you're a complete newcomer. This is thanks to a variety of gifts that you can claim after the update. The highlight here is definitely that you can choose a research branch from which you will then receive all tanks of Tiers VI–X for free. Accounts that were created after Update 2.0 can even choose two research branches. In addition, there is also free premium time and many other smaller gifts.
It is important to note that these gifts and rewards can be collected until October 15th, 2025 at the latest. So if you are thinking about playing World of Tanks, you should get started soon.
Last Words
After hearing about Update 2.0, I downloaded World of Tanks again before its release and played a few rounds. The difference, especially in terms of matchmaking, is already noticeable after the update, and I'm having a lot of fun playing and grinding. Heute geht es um ein Spiel, dass ich im Laufe der Jahre immer mal wieder gespielt habe, jedoch habe ich auf meinem Blog nie davon berichtet. Die Rede ist von World of Tanks. Denn in den letzten Tagen und Wochen habe ich wieder damit begonnen es zu spielen und das hat auch einen Grund. Es gab ein riesiges Update, nämlich World of Tanks 2.0, durch welches viele Bereiche des Spiels verbessert wurden und auch ganz neue Inhalte hinzugefügt wurde. Deswegen möchte ich heute ein bisschen über das Spiel im allgemeinen, das Update 2.0 und meine persönlichen Eindrücke berichten. Viel Spaß beim Lesen! 😊
Was ist World of Tanks?
World of Tanks ist ein Multiplayer-Taktik-Shooter mit Elementen eines MMOs, welches von der Firma „Wargaming“ entwickelt und 2010 veröffentlicht wurde. Hauptsächlich wird es über den PC gespielt, jedoch gibt es auch Ableger für Konsolen und mobile Geräte. Wie man dem Namen schon entnehmen kann, handelt das Spiel von Panzern, welche geschichtlich primär um die Zeit des zweiten Weltkriegs einzuordnen sind. In taktischen Gefechten treten die Spieler in Teams aus jeweils 15 Spielern gegeneinander an und versuchen die gegnerische Basis zu erobern und alle gegnerischen Panzer auszuschalten. Im Laufe des Spiels kann man eine Vielzahl von verschiedenen Panzern freischalten, die man dann in den Gefechten verwenden kann.
Das Spiel an sich ist gratis, allerdings gibt es natürlich Mikrotransaktionen durch die sich die Spieler Zugang zu Premium Inhalten verschaffen können. Dadurch ist World of Tanks ein „Pay-to-Progress“ Spiel, jedoch kein „Pay-to-Win“ Spiel, da man sich durch die Käufe keine entscheidenden Vorteile im Gefecht verschaffen kann. Der Skill des jeweiligen Spielers nimmt einen sehr hohen Anteil auf das Gefechtsergebnis ein.
Neuerungen mit Update 2.0
Am 3. September, ca. 15 Jahre nach Release des Spiels, war es dann endlich soweit. Mit Update 2.0 wurde eines der größten Updates jemals veröffentlicht.
Die größte Neuerung sind vermutlich die neuen Tier XI Panzer, denn zuvor war auf Tier X Schluss. Insgesamt 16 neue Fahrzeuge wurden auf dieser Stufe eingeführt, die neuerdings alle eine eigene einzigartige Spezialfähigkeit besitzen, was sie von den restlichen Stufen abheben soll. Außerdem haben die Entwickler bereits angekündigt, dass in der Zukunft weitere Tier XI Panzer eingeführt werden sollen.
Eine sehr große Änderung wurde vorgenommen, indem die Werte von über 300 Panzern gebalanced und überarbeitet wurden. Das sind zwar immer noch etwas weniger als die Hälfte aller verfügbaren Panzer im Spiel, trotzdem habe ich mich besonders über diese Änderung gefreut, da Panzer sämtlicher Stufen angepasst wurden und der Spielspaß dadurch meiner Meinung ziemlich angestiegen ist.
Was bei mir persönlich auch für mehr Spielspaß gesorgt hat, sind die Änderungen am Matchmaking-System. Der größte Punkte hierbei ist vermutlich, dass es mehr gleichstufige Gefechte geben wird und dementsprechend weniger Gefechte, in denen Panzer drei verschiedener Stufen gegeneinander antreten müssen. Das macht die Gefechte ausgeglichener und für jeden einzelnen angenehmer zu spielen.
Daneben gab es auch noch eine Vielzahl weiterer Änderungen, wie zum Beispiel die Neugestaltung der Garage und der dortigen Benutzeroberfläche, eine neue Karte, Anpassung der Sounds im Spiel und vieles mehr.
Geschenke zu Update 2.0
Das Update 2.0 hat auch dafür gesorgt, dass jetzt ein sehr guter, wenn nicht sogar der beste, Einstiegszeitpunkt für Beginner ist. Sei es ob man das Spiel bereits mal gespielt hat und nur wieder reinschauen möchte, oder für komplette Neueinsteiger. Dafür sorgt eine Vielzahl an Geschenken, die man nach dem Update einfordern kann. Das Highlight hierbei ist definitiv, dass ihr einen Forschungszweig wählen könnt, von dem ihr dann alle Panzer der Stufen VI – X gratis erhaltet. Accounts, die nach dem Update 2.0 neu erstellt wurden, dürfen sich sogar zwei Forschungszweige aussuchen. Daneben gibt es außerdem gratis Premium-Spielzeit und viele weitere kleinere Geschenke.
Wichtig ist zu wissen, dass diese Geschenke und Belohnungen spätestes bis zum 15.10.2025 abgeholt werden können. Spiel ihr mit dem Gedanken World of Tanks spielen zu wollen, solltet ihr euch also ranhalten.
Letzte Worte
Nachdem ich vom Update 2.0 erfahren habe, habe ich bereits vor dessen Release World of Tanks mal wieder heruntergeladen und einige Runden gespielt. Der Unterschied, vor allem was das Matchmaking betrifft, ist nach dem Update schon deutlich spürbar und ich habe viel Spaß beim Spielen und Grinden. Ich blicke außerdem auch sehr positiv in die Zukunft was World of Tanks betrifft, da bereits die nächsten Updates anstehen und diese sich sehr vielversprechend anhören. Falls ihr also Interesse habt, kann ich euch das Spiel nur empfehlen. Da das Spiel an sich nicht wirklich einfach und nicht selbsterklärend ist, würde ich euch beim Start gerne helfen.

World of Tanks is a great game for being free-to-play, although, as is often the case with these types of games, it ends up being quite pay-to-win. I had the opportunity to play it a few years ago and I liked it a lot, but for some reason I never ended up playing it much.

For me, World of Tanks was the game I tried when I first got my PS4 because I didn't have enough money to buy any games haha. That was around 2014.I always thought that the game wasn't doing very well in terms of players, or that it had shut down, because I hadn't heard anything more about it.
However, a few days ago I saw a news item about this update and was surprised to read that it has created a community that is not so small, with a fairly good base of active players as well.
I'm always surprised that the player numbers are still so damn high, especially after such a long time. You can also see from the viewer numbers on Twitch that World of Tanks is pretty popular.
