i have yet to play Pathologic, but it looks interesting!
have you played Alan Wake? i found that game to be atmospheric, not BP. BP's got a bit of it, and only during combat.

I'm not really into quest/detective games. I wanted to dive into them, but the first acquaintance didn't go well :|
i know what you mean - some games genres are just not for everyone.
