Sonic Racing Crossworlds Demo (Switch) - I'm Impressed!

in Hive Gamingyesterday

Thanks to my great friend Arisu (who's Hive handle I forgot, I'm sorry), I've become interested in Sonic Racing Crossworlds.

When this game was first announced I was expecting just another Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed ordeal, but boy was I wrong.

After trying out the demo today I can safely say that Sonic Team has done an incredible job putting this game together.

Now, sure, this is the Switch 1 version, it's sub-720p on handheld mode (the way I tried it out) and it runs at 30FPS, but it's such a smooth 30FPS that you barely even notice it.

And then not to mention the transitions between tracks in the midst of a race! Those were absolutely incredible.

It feels like something straight out of the PS5 Ratchet and Clank game, but done on a Switch without any noticeable lag or load times between tracks, it's phenomenal!

I also really liked the race start mechanic, it reminds me of Ridge Racer 1/2 on PSP, where you need to hold the acceleration down at the right point so you get the max boost possible when starting out the race.

It just feels so good when you get it.

The single player mode feels pretty much like Mario Kart, where you have a GP with 4 "tracks" and you must get the maximum amount of points to win.

The difference being that the last track you race through the previous tracks by warping to them seamlessly. It's so cool!

And also, on the last track, the 1st place position is worth more points for some reason. I don't quite get that but I guess it makes comebacks easier so it's definitely a positive.

Obviously I won tsk tsk
I'm still getting used to the controls but they really aren't anything special, it's easy to play and quite a lot of fun.

I'll see if I can buy this game when it goes on sale, specially because it's so tiny and it can fit the full version on my SD card and have space to spare.

Too bad it costs R$249 but that's still less than the next gen versions and I suppose it'll be even cheaper once it definitely goes on sale.

I'm still a little confused over all the customisation options but I'm definitely not intimidated. It just makes me even happier to see that there's so much you can change to race exactly how you want to.

But overall, great demo, great game and very impressive presentation on the Switch 1, specially with the warps to other tracks mid-race, that is just absolutely incredible.

Thanks for reading!

I haven't played this game before, but I've heard of it. I can't remember the last time I played a racing game. I've been staying away from mobile games lately. At least the classic ones. I'm trying to spend a little more time on Web 3 games, mostly to learn. Anyway, how would you rate this game out of 10?

From what I've seen on this demo, it's definitely a 9/10.

I can't give it a 10/10 because the graphics take a big hit on the Switch version, however the fun factor is insanely high - even with it being just a demo.

I hope you can remember your friend's username; Sonic looks cool in his car.
