RE: Revisiting Advance Wars - Strategizing with a big army on a small screen [ENG/ESP]

in Hive Gaming2 days ago

I had this game on the original hardware once upon a time. It was an incredibly entertaining and engrossing title for the platform, and it really opened up hand held gaming to experiences that were not available away from the home.

It was pretty sophisticated in terms of its game play, and it always felt like it had so much content. I remember spending so much time in the skirmish mode alone.

This is a game that made me love turn based strategy games. Were it not for it, I probably also would have never discovered Fire Emblem on the GBA, either.

Some of my happiest gaming memories are with the Game boy Advance and Advance Wars. I never really played the sequels, but I did pick up the recent remaster on the Switch.

I knew of Fire Emblem from both of my brothers, but I'm pretty sure I only played the first GBA Fire Emblem game for a couple of missions and think got stuck at one point. But I do remember loading Advance Wars on my PSP [through an emulator] and actually completing the whole campaign...at least the Normal one.

It has been years since then, so I figured it would be ok to revisit it once more. That, and I'm pretty sure I never finished AW2 or AWDS either [remembered my brother actually had Advance Wars Days of Ruin, so I'm pretty sure that was how I found out about the series...but despite that, the only thing I really did with his cartridge was listening to the menu music instead of playing the game lmao]

Honestly, I'm also pretty surprised with how, even early on, has the enemy carry an assortment of decent units like Rockets and Medium Tanks for you to fight - so it already kicks off to a soft but fair challenge to ramp up as you keep progressing [unless you're an expert that can make easy work of the early missions any day...in which case, even those have something to chew with the Advanced Campaign].

Thanks for reading and for your comment :D
