Racher is a German word meaning avenger so it means Solnari's avenger as in the person who is avenging Solnari. Solnari is an alternate name for the Iridescent Moon previously only known as Sonnet. The story we got had nothing to do with that lol. In fact, it was the opposite of that. Somebody who ends up killing Rerir would be a Racher of Solnari. My money would be on Orlog.
They even suggested that he has nothing to do with Sonnet at all but his title already existed. His motivation is just about revenge for his wife which was the very thing we were told he wasn't after anymore.
Also Sonnet's not really anything. I'm hoping we'll get more development for her later seeing as how she did turn out to be the Abyssal Moon. But I have my doubts the current dev team knows how to get this story done right. You know during the first 3 years of this game, it was really easy to figure out where the story would go if you knew about the history and culture the devs were lifting the story from. Fontaine was when I think the team was changed so it started out right. The same structure was there. But then the story went off the rails.
Then last year we got Natlan and many people were upset by it. It felt totally detached from anything in real life but it had the audacity to make some surface references to multiple unrelated cultures. The misappropriation complaints were wild and sadly they were justified this time. (people were complaining about Sumeru too but it was very faithful to ancient Persian history and culture) Now we're in Nod-Krai which is technically meant to be part of Russia but we've seen no Russian history or culture from the region so far. Well maybe the hats worn by the Ratniki and that their name is Russian but that's really it. It could be that Nod-Krai represents Finland which was once an autonomous part of the Russian Empire. But then the threat of a Nordic-based enemy, something about zombies, the lawless structure of the city and also the inclusion of Middle Easterners has no basis in Finnish folklore or history. Moon worship as well wasn't quite as religious as the game has made it.
As such it's been impossible to predict Natlan's and now Nod-Krai's stories. Even if the story tells you one thing, it might do something else after like Rerir's motivations. Last year we were told explicitly that a character would give up their life in order to construct something called an Ancient Name. Then she did and nothing happened to her.
Well at least Arlecchino is back and that'll be in the next video!
